Renee’s lips curled into a lazy smile. “I never imagined that after all these years, you would still be so heartless. I specifically came here because I heard you and Uriel had returned. I know your father disowned you and forced you out of Dracovia back then because of me, but I was desperate. Think about it. We were found in the same bed in front of everyone, yet you publicly refused to marry me. I had loved you for so many years; how could I accept that? Faced with everyone’s judgment, I had to pressure your father to make you agree to the marriage. I just never expected you to be so ruthless. You didn’t care about our childhood bond at all and chose to leave with Uriel anyway. I was a victim too. I only wanted to see you both today, but it seems time has not softened your coldness toward me.” She finished with a look of practiced grievance.

Derrick’s eyes turned cold and his voice grew harsh. “Drop the act. It is nauseating. We have nothing to see you about and even less to say to you. Everyone knows exactly what happened back then. I have no desire to recount your pathetic, low-class schemes in public, so you should leave now before things get any more embarrassing for everyone involved.”

Renee’s gaze turned sultry and her smile became mocking. “Is that so? Are you certain you want me to leave right now? I would hate for you to regret it once I am gone.”

Derrick was about to retort when Sebastian stepped forward to stop him. He stared at the woman with lethal intensity. “Did you take Lilian?”

He had been wondering why she would show up here, but now he was certain she was involved in Lilian’s disappearance. It was even possible she was the one who had taken her. Looking back, she was likely the mastermind behind the recent string of trouble the Whitmore family had faced.

Uriel and Derrick looked at her in disbelief.

Renee gave a charming laugh. “What are you talking about? I haven’t the slightest clue. Isn’t Miss Lilian standing right next to you? Surely you haven’t failed to recognize your own fiancée.”

“You know exactly who this woman is,” Sebastian said coldly. “If you thought putting her face on another woman would fool me, you have vastly underestimated Lilian’s place in my heart. You have a lot of nerve trying to pass off such a cheap imitation as the real thing.”

Triny broke into fresh sobs at his words. “How can you say that? I am Lilian! I am your fiancée! I have absolutely nothing to do with Renee!”

She was certain now that she had missed something critical, which was why he was so adamant. But in this situation, she had to double down. If the news broke tomorrow that she was a fraud, her position would be compromised even if she eventually managed to control him.
