Gong Chen looked up at Lin Zhiyi, who was engrossed in her design work, and quietly got up to leave the study.
Standing in front of the living room’s floor-to-ceiling window, he dialed Li Huan’s number.
"What’s with the plastic surgery?"
"My friend went to check on Chu Yin’s wound, and coincidentally Chu Yin was looking at Mrs. Bai’s photo. Probably because Chu Yin was worried Mrs. Bai might harm her. My friend saw it too and instantly noticed Mrs. Bai had work done on her face."
"Who performed the surgery for her?" Gong Chen asked.
On Li Huan’s side, there was the sound of papers being shuffled.
"My friend said from the look of the implants, it’s likely not the technique from within the country."
"My friend also commented that from a cosmetic surgeon’s perspective, certain parts of her bone structure don’t need alteration at all, but she did make changes, adding maturity to her appearance instead."
"Such alterations are either because of a plastic surgery addiction or deliberately done; it’s unlikely a doctor’s suggestion."
"But her changes are an accumulation over years, evidently to avoid getting noticed for undergoing surgery, which makes it highly likely the latter."
"I think this might be a point of entry. Her face requires constant repair and maintenance, so she must have a regular doctor."
Upon hearing this, Gong Chen recalled Yang Jingwei’s appearance.
Her maintenance is exceptional, noticeably more meticulous than other wealthy women.
"Be careful, don’t let anyone find out."
"What is it? Did something happen again?" Li Huan was perceptive.
Gong Chen informed Li Huan about the situation with the art gallery paintings.
Li Huan was shocked: "How many secrets does the Bai Family really hold? Ever since the Bai Family abruptly abandoned their domestic assets, I’ve found it odd. Wasn’t there an issue when the old Bai Family patriarch was kidnapped years ago?"
Gong Chen remained silent for a moment.
"Don’t let anyone else know about this yet. I recall you have some classmates who stayed at foreign hospitals; reach out to them discreetly. It’s best if someone can retrieve photos of Mrs. Bai before her surgery."
"Photos?" Li Huan paused, lowered his voice, "You don’t think... that’s impossible, the director knows Mrs. Bai, he couldn’t possibly misidentify her."
"I’ve investigated your director; he might not have issues, but his son died due to surgical errors. The matter was settled between both parties, and now his son works in a foreign hospital. Guess who recommended him?"
The answer is obvious.
Li Huan took a deep breath, "I understand. But as you say, we’re really at a dead end with the Bai Family here in the country unless someone can infiltrate internally."
"Let’s not mention this matter, Zhiyi wouldn’t agree." Gong Chen rejected.
"Third Young Master, you should’ve been like this earlier; your relationship could’ve avoided detours for three years." Li Huan teased.
Though joking, there was no trace of laughter in their voices.
The complexity before them all hinted at new dangers approaching.
"Hanging up."
Gong Chen heard the sound of the study door opening, and he directly hung up the phone.
As he turned around, Lin Zhiyi emerged from the hallway.
"Third Young Master, why are you here?"
"Afraid to disturb you, how’s it going?" Gong Chen put away his phone and changed the topic.
"All done, but I might need your investor expertise for a small favor."
"I can, but there must be something in return for helping you out—for your performance then."
Gong Chen said as he pulled her close.
Lin Zhiyi crashed into the man’s chest unexpectedly.
The next second, her lips were captured in a kiss.
The man held her head, gradually deepening the kiss, as if wanting to imprint both of them in the deepest part.
Lin Zhiyi was almost out of breath.
Her body lightened as he directly lifted her up.
Once in the bedroom, the door gently closed.
The man grasped her waist with one hand, while the other undid his tie and most buttons, revealing a firm chest.
He leaned down and kissed her forehead.
"Tired?"
"..."
"Zhiyi, I want you."
"Tired." Lin Zhiyi almost bluntly called for moderation.
"Hmm, then I’ll do the work." His voice was hoarse.
"..."
Annoying man.
His presence was so overbearing that Lin Zhiyi had no time to think wildly.
Yet even as she slept soundly, it didn’t prevent her from having nightmares.
It’s the same scene again, but this time it seemed to be fast-forwarding.
