Reborn to Outshine My Ex and His White Moonlight novel Chapter 418

Chapter 418: Chapter 418: This Kid Isn’t that Young Anymore

At this point, Du Qian had no choice but to answer the call.

"Doctor Qiao, what’s the matter?"

"Doctor Du, someone just requested all of Xingxing’s past records. Do you know what’s going on?"

Qiao Yunke’s voice carried a hint of fear.

Du Qian glanced at the silent man smoking across from him and forced a faint smile. "It’s nothing. I’ll return to the hospital to handle it immediately."

"Alright."

After hanging up the phone, Du Qian stood up at once.

"Third Young Master, I’m sorry, I still have work to do. Please excuse me."

"Mm."

Gong Chen’s calm demeanor made Du Qian feel even more uneasy. Frowning, he left the café in quick strides.

After Du Qian left, Gong Chen stubbed out his half-smoked cigarette.

As he passed the counter while leaving, he ordered two desserts, "Pack these for me."

The cashier glanced over and explained, "Sir, the little bunny one is a children’s cake. It’s not very sweet and might taste bland to your girlfriend."

Although the tags clearly stated they were children’s cakes with mild sweetness,

there were still young ladies who insisted on buying them because they looked cute, only to complain later that the cakes were inferior.

So now, the staff always made sure to explain.

"She’s not my girlfriend—she’s my daughter," Gong Chen replied calmly.

"Understood. The other one is white chocolate. If the child is very young, they shouldn’t eat too much." The cashier offered a kind suggestion.

"This child isn’t that young anymore."

Gong Chen left the café with the packaged desserts.

The cashier behind him looked completely bewildered.

"Who would’ve thought such a handsome guy already has two daughters?"

"Are you dumb? Didn’t he mention ’wife’ later?"

...

On the way back to the hotel.

Lin Zhiyi rubbed her temples with her fingers.

Sang Li handed her a bottle of mineral water. "Did he scare you?"

"Not really, just that playing along with his act is a bit nauseating. If I didn’t already know about his nature, his flawless behavior would leave no cracks. I can’t even imagine what would’ve happened if I’d accepted his advances at any point over the past three years."

"You wouldn’t have," Sang Li reassured her. "You already have someone in your heart; there’s no room for anyone else."

Hearing this, Lin Zhiyi paused her motion of unscrewing the bottle cap.

She looked at Sang Li apologetically, "About before..."

"Zhiyi, no need to explain too much. There were many things beyond your control. Seeing you and the child safe is enough for me. Otherwise, I would’ve been the one uncertain about how to face you—after all, Xiao Ran is my sister."

Sang Li looked at Lin Zhiyi with a resigned expression.

Lin Zhiyi pressed her lips together, unsure how to respond.

Sang Li remained silent for a moment, then continued, "Zhiyi, actually, I have a selfish request." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

"What is it?"

"I believe Third Young Master already mentioned Xiao Ran’s condition," Sang Li brought up Sang Ran.

Thinking of the agreement between Gong Chen and Sang Ran, Lin Zhiyi was about to refuse when Sang Li let out a faint laugh.

"Given the situation, there’s nothing to hide anymore. No need to keep it bottled up."

"Mm." Lin Zhiyi nodded.

Sang Li’s smile faded, replaced by a touch of bitterness. "Xiao Ran’s condition is not looking good."

Hearing this, Lin Zhiyi recalled Sang Ran’s call to Gong Chen last night, which seemed to mention it as well.

Sang Li began to recount the changes in Sang Ran over the years.

"Xiao Ran is almost obsessional now, like she’s become a completely different person. Neither my father nor I can convince her otherwise—she only listens to Third Young Master."

Lin Zhiyi frowned, "You want me to..."

"Don’t misunderstand. I’m not asking you to leave Third Young Master. I’m hoping you and Xingxing can refrain from returning to Jing City for the time being. You’re likely aware of the sham marriage between Third Young Master and Xiao Ran. But since the wedding was held on such a grand scale, a divorce would still need to go through formalities. My father has always doted on Xiao Ran, and his sole wish is for Xiao Ran to let go of her obsessions and leave this world without regrets. After all, when my mother passed away, her greatest worry was Xiao Ran. I know this may trouble you again."

Sang Li looked at Lin Zhiyi with a blend of helplessness and regret.

"I called out to you, but you probably didn’t hear me from inside."

Gong Chen walked toward her slowly, the faint scent of mint on him contrasting with the intense heat of his presence.

Lin Zhiyi took a step back. "What’s the matter?"

"I brought you some cake. If you don’t eat it soon, it’ll melt."

Gong Chen placed the cake on the makeup table and opened the box.

Lin Zhiyi glanced at the packaging and immediately recognized it as being from the café where she had met Du Qian.

"Were you following me the whole time?"

"Yes. I promised to protect you from the shadows." Gong Chen calmly picked up a tiny fork. "It’s already starting to melt. Want to come taste it?"

Lin Zhiyi looked at the small cake. The white chocolate and vibrant red strawberries were very tempting.

Without overthinking, she walked over.

Completely oblivious to the fact that her undone silk ribbon had drifted open, revealing her delicate collarbone and fair curves.

Lin Zhiyi took the fork and speared a strawberry, taking a bite.

The bright red juice trickled onto the edge of her lips, with a smudge of white cream joining it. She didn’t even have time to lick it off and simply used her fingers to dab lightly at her lips.

She failed to notice the man’s breaths growing heavier with each passing second, as if he were holding himself back with immense effort.

Still oblivious, she praised the strawberry with a smile.

"This strawberry is so delicious—fresh, tender, and juicy. You should have one too."

"Mm."

With that, Gong Chen wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her forcefully into his embrace, pressing his lips against hers.

His thick lashes lifted slightly, and in his dark eyes burned a desire that could no longer be concealed.

He brushed his lips lightly against hers before chuckling as he murmured, "Indeed, it’s very sweet."

Lin Zhiyi froze, a tremor passing through the hand holding the fork. She felt a chill on her chest as the remaining half of the strawberry tumbled downward, leaving a streak of red juice in its wake.

As their eyes met, Lin Zhiyi caught a glimpse of madness in his gaze.

"You wouldn’t dare... hmm..."
