Reborn, Reawakened, Rekindled novel Chapter 540

"Since she has a better way to treat Hiram, let her take him." Neil maintained his original decision, unfazed by the situation.

The reaction wasn't quite what I expected.

Karina wanting to take Hiram should've been what she wanted, but her expression wasn't any better than mine; it rather held a hint of resentment.

"Irene, do mind your own business." Karina's tone was a bit sharp. Just as she was about to take Hiram away, he suddenly spoke up.

His voice was soft but firm, "Mommy, I want to stay with Daddy for treatment!"

Karina looked at Hiram, disbelief etched across her face as if she'd heard a ridiculous joke. She squatted down to reiterate Hiram's words, "What did you say? You want to stay here for treatment?"

Seeing Karina squatting and looking at him, Hiram shrank a bit. However, he didn't get intimidated by her gaze as he did in the past. Instead, he mustered the courage to voice his feelings, "Mommy, I want to stay here with Daddy for treatment. I'll come to you when I'm better, okay?"

"Hiram, Mommy can cure you. It's dangerous for you to stay here, do you understand?" Karina patiently tried to convince Hiram.

But today, Hiram was different. He held my hand, showing his refusal through his action.

I shielded him, "Since Hiram has made his choice, let's wait till he's better before he goes back to you."

"Hiram!" Karina was losing her patience. The obedient child who always listened to her suddenly refused to follow her arrangement. It was normal for her to not accept it.

Hiram didn't dare to look at Karina but held my hand tighter. At that point, Neil finally spoke up, "Hiram will stay. I'll take care of his treatment. If he chooses to go with you after he recovers, I won't stop him."

Karina was clearly taken aback by Neil's indifferent attitude. She occasionally glanced at me, her gaze full of suspicion and rejection.

If I'm not mistaken, she probably thought that Neil was bewitched by me, hence he was even willing to give up his own child.

Indeed, Karina let go of Hiram and turned her attention to me, "Irene, I think we need to have a talk."

"Go ahead." I didn't refuse, but I didn't want to follow Karina out either.

"We should talk privately. After all, it's about the children, isn't it?" Karina subtly hinted that what she was about to say might concern Serena and Brandon. My heart sank.

Karina knows how to manipulate me well; she knows what I care about the most.

My face darkened, "Let's go out and talk."

A smug smile played on Karina's face as she walked out of the room first. Neil, however, looked at me with questioning eyes, seemingly suspicious of what Karina and I were about to discuss.

Now that Neil's attitude towards Hiram has changed a lot, if it turns out that the other two children are his biological children, he might genuinely abandon Karina and Hiram.

Having said that, I didn't bother with Karina anymore. I turned around to go back to the room, but unexpectedly, I saw Russel.

He had completely teamed up with Karina now. Apart from dealing with company matters, he was also helping Karina handle some issues. The fact that Karina knew about the matching results definitely involved his help.

Russel stood not far away, about five or six meters away. His gaze seemed like a thin fog in the night, indistinct, only very hazy.

Karina was visibly agitated when she realized I was ignoring her. She trailed behind me, unable to accept my nonchalance towards her threats, as if it didn't matter.

She tried to grab my hand, but I jerked away rudely. "Don't touch me!"

"Irene, you've had him all these years, you were married, and now you're divorced. Why can't you let go and let me have my second chance?" Karina was on the verge of losing control, gritting her teeth as she confronted me.

Bonnie had asked me the same question once. It seemed they both thought I was the one who couldn't let Neil go. In their minds, Neil would never be the one to go back on his word.

But they overlooked one thing. Neil and I had known each other for over a decade, been married for five years. Our relationship was more than just a marriage. Even after divorce, our lives were so entangled, it was impossible to completely cut ties.
