Charles Pembroke was practically vibrating with excitement. He thought Lorna Avery was the one walking out of the room. Instead, his eyes landed on Theresa Ellington. There was no sign of Lorna anywhere. He stood there, completely lost. Why was Theresa Graham standing with all these top-tier executives? "Did everything go smoothly?" Logan Hughes asked as he walked over, his tone laced with concern. This was Theresa's first time leading a meeting since taking over as CEO, and he had been slightly worried about whether the young woman could command the respect of her subordinates. "Don't worry, it went perfectly," Theresa replied with a confident smile. At first, there had indeed been a few who didn't take her seriously. But Elena had taught her a valuable strategy: make an example out of someone. After she immediately stripped one of the senior executives of their position, the rest fell in line. They quickly realized she was not someone to be crossed. Charles marched forward, his face twisted in defiance. "Theresa Graham, what are you doing here? Where is Lorna?" "Why wouldn't I be here? As of today, I am the acting CEO of the Ellington Group." "Impossible! How could you be the CEO? Lorna is the heiress. Theresa, you've always loved playing pretend. Faking your way as a rich girl was one thing, but now you're showing up at the company trying to impersonate the CEO? You really put on a great show!" Theresa furrowed her brows. It seemed Charles had truly lost his mind. The reality of the situation was staring him right in the face, and he still refused to accept it. "The only one who doesn't understand the facts here is you, Charles. I told you yesterday that the first thing I would do when I took office was fire you. Let me spell it out for you. I am the sole heir to the Ellington Group. Open your eyes and look at reality." "No! Impossible! That's impossible! Lorna is the heiress, it can't be!" Charles muttered, vehemently rejecting the truth. Theresa couldn't be bothered to waste another breath on him. Her assistant hurried over, clutching a file. "Ms. Ellington, this is an urgent document that just arrived. It requires your immediate signature." Theresa opened the folder, scanned the contents, and decisively signed her name at the bottom. The assistant took the document and quickly walked away. Charles was dumbfounded. If Theresa was just acting, why were so many people in the company playing along? Even the executives walking past respectfully bowed their heads in greeting. "Theresa Graham, what the hell kind of trick are you playing!" Charles yelled. "You've got some nerve, using the CEO's full name like that," Logan reprimanded sharply. Seeing the color drain from Charles's face gave him immense satisfaction. Theresa lifted her chin and looked down at him. "Charles Pembroke, I am telling you this for the last time. My name isn't Theresa Graham. My name is Theresa Ellington. Security! As of this moment, this man is no longer an employee of this company. He is officially terminated. Drag him out of here. I don't want to see his face, and I certainly don't want him dirtying my floors." "Right away, Ms. Ellington," Logan played along perfectly. He stepped forward, grabbed Charles by the collar, and began dragging him toward the exit. "No! It's not like this! Let me go! Let me go!" Charles thrashed wildly. "I'm the heiress's boyfriend! I'm the future son-in-law of the Ellington Group! You can't do this to me! Let go of me, have you lost your damn mind? I am the Ellington son-in-law!" Charles was screaming like a lunatic. He had lived in this beautiful dream for so long, and now that he was violently waking up, he refused to go down without a fight. All the way to the doors, the staff stared at him like he was an absolute idiot. What a joke. The real heiress had just taken over the Ellington Group, and this guy was still screaming about marrying into the family. It was pathetic. Charles was physically thrown out of the building. Logan even spat on the ground near his shoes for good measure. Meanwhile, in the sales department, the gossip was spreading like wildfire. "Hey, did you hear? Charles Pembroke just got fired. The CEO personally had him thrown out of the building!"
