"Charles, do you really love me?"
"Of course I do. From the very first day you walked into the office, I couldn't take my eyes off you. I remember thinking, how could someone be so stunningly beautiful and have such a kind heart? You know the rest. I'm completely in love with you."
"What if... what if I had nothing? What if I lost everything and was just an ordinary person? Would you still want to be with me?" Lorna asked, her voice laced with guilt.
"Absolutely. You're the only woman I ever want to marry. No matter what happens, I'll always love you."
Hearing that, Lorna finally felt a wave of relief.
That meant even when Charles eventually found out she was just a nobody with no real ties to the Ellington family, he would still stay by her side, right?
Charles held her close, his own heart racing with anticipation.
Now that he had taken her, she was entirely his.
His future as the Ellington family's son-in-law was practically set in stone. She wasn't getting away now.
Even if Mr. Ellington looked down on his modest background, it wouldn't matter. Lorna's heart belonged to him now, and what father could ever deny his beloved daughter?
"Lorna, I love you. I love you so much."
With those words, he pulled her back down into the sheets.
Right in the heat of their passion, Lorna's phone suddenly rang.
It buzzed relentlessly until she finally grabbed it in annoyance.
Charles snatched the device from her hand. "Don't answer it. This is our time."
"But it's my family calling."
Charles froze. Realizing it was someone from the Ellington family, he quickly handed the phone back.
Lorna redialed the number.
"Hello? What's going on?"
On the other end, the house steward pleaded, "Lorna, where are you? It's so late, why aren't you home yet?"
