“Mom, you... why did you hit me?”
“You rude thing. Your brother is right to lecture you. Why haven't you apologized to your brother and sister-in-law yet?” the old woman scolded.
Maggie felt incredibly aggrieved.
Cathy and Nick wanted to say something, but the old woman shot them a sharp look, so they both kept their mouths shut.
“Daniel, Amanda, I’m sorry...” Maggie said unwillingly.
“No need to apologize, we don't need it. Just watch what you say in the future and know your place! Next time, if you act like this, don't bother coming through my door!” Daniel said.
“Uncle really has a temper now, daring to talk like that...” Cathy whispered.
Nick nudged her, signaling her to be careful. They were in someone else's house, after all.
“Alright, Maggie has apologized. We are all family. You two are the elders, the big brother and sister-in-law, so don't hold a grudge. Especially you, Amanda. Mom knows you have the kindest heart.”
The old woman smiled and actually walked over to hold Amanda’s hand.
Amanda was flattered and surprised.
In her memory, the old woman had never liked her. This was the first time she had ever held her hand.
“Amanda, talk some sense into Daniel. As the big brother, how can he just stand by and do nothing? The company can't survive without him right now! Tell him to go back!”
Amanda wasn't stupid. She knew the old woman was trying the soft approach.
“Mom, I’m just a housewife. I don't understand company matters. And as you know, I’m not very educated, so the decision is still in Daniel’s hands.”
Hearing that there was no hope, the old woman showed no mercy and immediately threw Amanda’s hand aside.
She even let out a cold snort in her heart.
Amanda marveled at how fast the woman’s face changed.
