Edward and his children began to panic. The joy they had felt just moments ago had completely vanished.
"How could this happen! Nick, go check it out immediately! Find out what's going on!"
Soon, the situation began to spiral out of control.
Of the dozen or so employees sent to the hospital, four more had died.
Families of the victims besieged the company headquarters.
The employees went on strike, blocking the main entrance.
The incident had blown up, and the police had arrived.
Edward and the others paced around the office, frantic and unable to think clearly.
"How did this happen... how is this possible..."
"Dad, we checked the cafeteria. The ingredients are fresh; it shouldn't have much to do with the food there!" Nick said.
Shortly after, the police entered the office.
"Who is the person in charge here?"
"It... it's me," Edward said nervously.
"Mr. Whelan, inspections have revealed that the hazardous substances in your raw materials exceed legal limits and do not meet national safety standards. This has led to the poisoning of your workers. As of now, several people have died. As the responsible party, you need to come with us."
After speaking, the officer handcuffed Edward.
"Officer, wait... this has nothing to do with me! I just got here. I only took over two days ago. I don't know anything! You have to let me go, you've got the wrong person, it wasn't me..." Edward tried frantically to explain.
