She and Nick left shortly after.
"Dad, are you okay?" Elena asked.
"I'm fine. Elena, why did you come?"
"I heard there was trouble at the company, so I came to see."
Daniel sighed. "It's a small matter. You don't need to worry about it. I'll handle it."
Elena felt that things probably weren't that simple.
She decided to investigate it herself.
A short while later, Daniel received a call from the old lady, summoning him to the family estate.
"Elena, I have to go see your grandmother. She's definitely angry."
"Dad, I'll go with you! If they give you a hard time, the worst that can happen is we quit. Our family doesn't desperately need this job right now anyway."
"Alright." Daniel nodded.
The father and daughter went to the Whelan family estate.
There, Cathy and Nick were still fanning the flames.
"Grandma, look at how things have turned out. It's all Uncle Daniel's mismanagement. A life has been lost!"
"Exactly, Grandma. Uncle Daniel isn't fit for this responsibility. When my dad was managing things, sure, the performance wasn't as high as it is now, but at least no one died! Who knows how much the compensation will cost."
Edward, the second brother, feigned a sigh. "Yes, Mom. Big Brother was really negligent this time."
The old lady's face was ashen. She asked sternly, "Why isn't he here yet?"
"Ma'am, Mr. Whelan has arrived," the butler announced.
Daniel and Elena walked in.
"I'm a Whelan too. Why can't I speak? Cathy, you've been targeting my dad, bent on driving him out of the company. I want to ask you, does this have anything to do with you? Did you orchestrate this just to get rid of him?"
"You... what nonsense are you spouting!" Cathy snapped, looking flustered.
"Elena, you can eat whatever you want, but you can't just say whatever you want! This has nothing to do with us. It's clearly your father's mismanagement that caused the accident. Don't try to shift the blame!" Edward quickly added.
The old lady looked at everyone with suspicion.
Just then, the butler returned.
"Ma'am, bad news! The victims' families couldn't find Mr. Daniel Whelan at the company, so now they've gathered at the gates of the estate! What should we do? I heard the one in the hospital just died too. That's two dead now, and all their relatives are here!"
The old lady was shocked and couldn't sit still.
She glared at Daniel furiously. "Daniel, what do you have to say for yourself? Now our home is under siege!"
Daniel was confused. He had clearly ordered people to coordinate with the victims' families and discuss compensation.
