"Claire doesn't want to see you. You and she are finished, do you understand? There is no possibility for you two anymore. Don't think that just because you pestered her into forgiveness before, she'll forgive you this time. This is a matter of principle. She can't forgive you! Second chances aren't unlimited. We gave you a second chance, but there is absolutely no third one!"
Justin hung his head in shame.
"Elena, the person I love is Claire. Cathy... that was just an accident!" Justin tried to explain.
"Ha! An accident? But it happened, didn't it? You're a man; you have to take responsibility. You even got a child out of it. What right do you have to ask for Claire's forgiveness here? Leave. It's over."
Justin looked desolate and defeated.
Finally, he stood up to leave.
He smiled bitterly. This was all his own doing.
He was no longer worthy of Claire.
"Elena, I understand. Please tell Claire I'm sorry. I failed her."
With that, Justin turned and walked away in silence.
Back at the main residence, the Carters and Edward's family were still arguing fiercely.
"Great. Now look what happened. You didn't raise your daughter right! She deliberately seduced my son and ruined his engagement! How could your family produce such a shameless daughter!" Mrs. Carter shouted.
"What are you saying? When you wanted to form an alliance with our family before, you didn't talk like this. Cathy was perfect in your eyes back then. Now you don't want to take responsibility?" Maggie was furious.
She had been beaten for no reason, her mouth was still swollen and painful.
It hurt even to speak.
But for her daughter's sake, she had to fight the Carters.
Mrs. Carter sneered. "Responsibility? What responsibility do you want us to take? Justin was supposed to marry Claire, not your Cathy!"
"I can't marry her anymore," Justin's voice came suddenly, filled with despair.
Everyone looked at him in shock.
Robert didn't speak, clearly reluctant.
"Mom, we know we were wrong, but the children's mistake needs a solution. Cathy is your biological granddaughter. You usually dote on her. Do you really want to see her pregnant with a child who has no father?" Edward turned to persuade the old lady.
The old lady had already meted out punishment. She sighed. "Let Justin marry Cathy then. Consider this scandal buried."
Cathy cried tears of joy.
She had finally gotten what she wanted—she was going to marry Justin.
She had won!
"Robert, the child belongs to the Carter family. It's your grandchild. Isn't it good to have a grandchild sooner? The eldest son's family has made their stance clear. They won't agree to the marriage with Claire anymore. That door is closed," the old lady said to her nephew-in-law.
Robert resigned himself. "Then we'll do as Auntie says."
"Good. Since that's settled, the wedding needs to happen quickly. Cathy is already showing. As for the wedding details, you two families discuss it. I'm tired and don't want to manage these things."
