Dylan took Elena to a food truck alley nearby.
"What happened back at the Whelan house?" Dylan asked.
"Nothing much. They all thought you had dumped me, so they were bullying my family. Even Claire's engagement fell apart because of it."
"How could I not want you? I made it very clear today. From now on, let's see who dares to bully you. You can walk through the Whelan house like you own the place!"
Elena looked at him. "You certainly showed up at the right time."
"Heh, I was coming to tell the Whelans the news anyway. I didn't expect to walk into that scene! You haven't eaten yet, right? Come on, I'll treat you."
Elena looked around. The street was lined with small food stalls.
Dylan walked up to a small stand. "Ma'am, two bowls of dumplings, please!"
"Coming right up, please wait a moment."
"You, a big CEO, eating street food?"
Dylan smiled. "I'm not as high-maintenance as you think. CEOs are people too. I used to come to this street often to eat. I feel like... there's real life here. People don't look at me strangely."
"Strangely?"
"Yeah. Before, I was just 'the President.' People around me were always walking on eggshells, or I was walking on eggshells trying to please my mother. Neither side felt warm. But here, they don't suck up to you because of who you are. They joke around with you. That's something I can't feel at the company, and definitely not at home."
It turned out Dylan had this side to him.
Indeed, people required a deeper understanding to truly know them.
A moment later, the owner brought the dumplings over.
"Here you go, enjoy!"
"Thanks!" Dylan said.
