"Hmph! I want to protect him too, but I can't! We aren't a match for the Maddox family! It's your fault for causing trouble. There's never a moment of peace. Whoever caused it should be the one to fix it and take responsibility!" the old woman said coldly.
She had made up her mind to throw Chris to the wolves.
"Fine. Since that's the case, let me handle it. I guarantee the Maddox family won't touch the Whelans, and my brother won't have to apologize! Will that satisfy you?"
Seeing this, Cathy spoke up with sarcastic mockery, "Oh, Elena, you aren't planning to go ask Dylan for help, are you? That makes sense. He's your fiancé; if you ask him, he'll definitely help you."
Elena shot a sharp glance at Cathy. "Who I ask for help is none of your business! Shut your mouth!"
"You..."
"You what? Could you resolve this? Aside from stirring the pot, watching the drama, and kicking people when they're down, what can you actually do?"
"I..." Cathy was furious, but she couldn't out-argue Elena.
She stamped her foot in frustration.
"Daniel, your daughter and son are quite capable, aren't they! Beating up young Mr. Maddox, and now talking big here. Your family really has ambition!" The old woman glanced at Daniel.
"Mom, since Elena said so, let's do as she says. Handing over Chris is impossible!"
"Good! Good! You want to anger me to death too, don't you? You unfilial son!"
The old woman raised her cane, intending to hit her son.
Elena caught the cane. She couldn't let her father be beaten.
"Grandma, I said I'd handle it myself. Why do you keep harping on it? Will you only be happy if you watch my brother die?" After saying that, Elena released the cane.
"Unworthy descendants! Unworthy descendants!" The old woman put on an expression of utter heartbreak.
"Mom, I'm sorry. Please try to understand a father's feelings!" With that, Daniel led his family away.
