Today, Gu Zi had skipped class for her prenatal check-up.
Just two days ago, Gao Ming’s family had moved into their new house next door, and now, the Su brothers were back to their usual routine, hitching rides with the Gao family to school.
As the children arrived home, Su Bing carried his little sister into the house while Su Li, clutching a large foam box, followed behind.
Gu Zi, curious as ever, couldn’t help but ask, "Su Li, why have you been carrying that big foam box to school every day? It’s so large that it blocks your view when you walk!"
Su Li, treating the box like a precious treasure, carefully set it down and replied with a grin, "Mom, I’m strong, it’s fine. This isn’t just any foam box; it’s the insulated box that Brother made. I put ice cream in it, and it stays frozen all day without melting! I’m making money with this now!"
Gu Zi was taken aback. She hadn’t expected that Su Bing, now without his three little sidekicks from back home, had transformed his younger brother into a sales assistant.
She wondered how Su Bing had managed to convince the mischievous Su Li to carry such a bulky box around every day. Then it dawned on her—she remembered Su Bing always tinkering with foam boxes before. Now it made sense. He had actually built an insulated box!
How clever! And, of course, it was no surprise that Su Li had become his little helper.
By late October, the weather in the north had taken a sharp turn, with the cold wind biting at everything it touched.
Su Li, still lugging the insulated box, sighed deeply. He couldn’t continue selling ice cream anymore. Even if the kids wanted to buy it, his older brother had told him to stop. "It’s too cold to eat ice cream, it’ll upset your stomach, and that would be a problem," Su Bing had explained.
And just like that, Su Li’s ice cream sales came to an abrupt halt.
Gu Zi watched her son sulkily clutching a full piggy bank, looking downcast, and couldn’t help but worry. "Has your brother come up with something else for you to sell?" she asked.
His milk tea became an instant hit with the other kids, and before long, it was in such high demand that he couldn’t keep up with the orders. Even students from other classes were buying from him.
Su Li worked hard, undeterred by the cold, and before lunchtime, all his milk tea was sold out.
One day, as he ran over to deliver another batch of milk tea to Su Bing’s class, he was surprised to find that it was Xu Sheng who had ordered. With a wide grin, Su Li handed him the drink and said, "This one’s on me. You’ve got to help me out with my business, alright? We’re old friends after all."
Xu Sheng hesitated at first, feeling a bit embarrassed, but hearing Su Li call him an "old friend" warmed his heart. He took the milk tea with a smile, and the warmth of the drink seemed to lift his spirits.
Su Li’s milk tea sales had become so popular that the school’s snack shop couldn’t keep up. The shop’s beverages were now gathering dust, and the owner was worried.
Coincidentally, the owner’s son, a sixth grader with natural leadership skills, had gathered a small group of followers. Seeing Su Li’s success, the little gang decided to push their leader to take action—perhaps to put the ambitious little boy in his place and reclaim some of the business he was stealing away.
