Su Shen’s expression turned serious, his voice low and earnest as he hastily explained, "Gu Zi, I would never do anything to hurt you. These days, aside from being consumed by work, the only thing on my mind has been you."
As he spoke, he pulled out a velvet jewelry box from his briefcase, flipping it open with a quiet flourish and presenting it to Gu Zi. Inside lay a dazzling diamond bracelet.
Carefully, Su Shen lifted the bracelet and clasped it around her wrist. It fit perfectly—almost too perfectly—as if it had been crafted solely for her.
Her hands, already so fair and delicate, her wrists slender and elegant, made the bracelet gleam even more brilliantly than it would have on a professional model. It was as though she had elevated the jewelry, granting it an even more refined allure.
Su Shen lifted her hand to his lips and kissed it reverently, his breath warm and brimming with undisguised adoration.
Gu Zi blushed immediately, glancing nervously at the children nearby. Fortunately, Su Bing was still busy fiddling with a box of foam toys, while Su Li and Su Le were engrossed in rummaging through Su Shen’s luggage. No one seemed to be paying them any attention.
Relieved, Gu Zi relaxed, but not without throwing a quick glare at Su Shen.
"You remember what I said," she reminded him sharply. "I wasn’t joking. And... seeing as the diamond on this thing is pretty decent, I’ll let today’s little incident slide."
With that, Gu Zi turned away and walked toward the children. Su Shen followed closely behind, just in time to see Su Li unearthing three elegantly wrapped gift boxes from his luggage. It suddenly occurred to Su Shen—he had brought back presents for each of the children too.
At that moment, Su Li was clutching one box tightly, reluctant to let go. Su Shen smiled and said, "That one’s for your big brother."
Obediently, Su Li put the box aside and picked up another. Su Shen was quick to remind him, "That one’s for your little sister—it’s a building block castle."
Su Li then carefully set down the second gift, leaving only one box remaining. His face lighting up with expectation, he lifted it into his hands and asked eagerly, "Daddy, what did you get for me?"
At that moment, Su Shen was occupied opening his daughter’s present under his wife’s watchful orders. Without looking up, he replied casually, "A custom-made sandbag. It’s specially designed for you to train with."
The excitement on Su Li’s face evaporated instantly, replaced by a visible wave of disappointment. His big brother and little sister both got toys, and he... he still had to train?
Miserable, Su Li shuffled over to Gu Zi, clutching the box in his arms. "Mommy, I want toys or something yummy too!"
Gu Zi glanced over at the scene—Su Shen had thoughtfully prepared gifts tailored to each of their personalities. A flicker of warmth rose in her heart; clearly, he was still deeply attentive to his family.
Gu Zi turned in his arms and opened her eyes. Her fingers lightly brushed his firm chest, her voice a whisper, low and teasing, "You’re suffering, aren’t you?"
The faint, fresh scent from her skin made his rationality return slightly. He shook his head, nuzzling her cheek and murmuring, "Holding you like this is enough."
Gu Zi’s heart softened. How could she not love this man who, even at his limit, still placed her comfort above his own?
Her slender fingers caressed the muscles of his chest, then drifted lower, lazily tracing circles on his abs. Her eyes gleamed with a mischievous, sultry light. "I meant... I need to perform a little inspection."
Su Shen’s breathing hitched. The lights were off, but the windows were open, allowing the hazy moonlight to spill into the room, draping everything in a silvery, dreamlike veil.
He caught her lips in a kiss, murmuring against her mouth, "What inspection?"
Gu Zi smiled wickedly, kissing his jawline before whispering against his skin, "Of course, I have to check whether you’ve remained chaste for me."
Su Shen’s night vision was excellent. Even in the soft shadows, he could clearly see her—this beguiling little vixen, so tightly pressed against him, looking more bewitching than ever.
He deepened the kiss, his voice low and husky as he answered, "Then you’d better check me thoroughly."
