From an outsider’s perspective, this family of three had nothing remarkable about them. The husband was honest and unassuming, almost without presence. The wife was adept in socializing and took great care of the elderly. Their daughter was bright and generous, an outstanding student at a well-known university.
What could possibly be wrong with such a family?
Mrs. Zheng nodded and said with a smile, "It’s true!"
Xianjing said excitedly, "That’s wonderful! I’m going to go up and see Great-aunt right now!"
Having said that, Xianjing rushed upstairs without delay.
Not long after, Xianjing came back downcast, "Great-aunt said she’s very tired and wants to rest some more."
Mrs. Zheng smiled and said, "As long as you have this filial heart, it will be the same if you visit your great-aunt tomorrow."
Xianjing nodded.
At mealtime, Suyu didn’t come down.
Mrs. Zheng instructed a servant to take the food up to Suyu.
Ni Yang stood up and said, "I’ll go."
With that, she took the platter from the servant’s hand and headed upstairs.
Upon reaching Suyu’s door, Ni Yang knocked.
After a while, Suyu’s voice came from inside, "Who is it?"
Ni Yang said, "Great-aunt, I’ve brought you something to eat. I’m coming in."
Ni Yang turned the doorknob and entered.
Suyu wasn’t lying in bed but was sitting at the dressing table.
Reflected in the vanity mirror was a face worn with the marks of time.
"Great-aunt, it’s time to eat." Ni Yang set the dishes on the table, "Grandma says these are all your old favorites. Please come and see if they suit your taste."
Suyu turned and walked over, "You’re Tingting’s child, Yangyang?"
"Mhm." Ni Yang nodded, "Yes, it’s me."
From the current situation, it was clear that Suyu was the only one who knew the truth.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about." Suyu picked up her chopsticks again and continued to mechanically feed herself.
Ni Yang continued, "Great-aunt, is the state you’re in now the work of Doctor Jiang and Zheng Lingling? My grandma has been good to them already, why would they do this?"
Suyu didn’t respond to Ni Yang’s words.
"If you don’t answer, I will take it as your agreement," Ni Yang pressed on, "Who is that child? Just give me a little clue, and I’m sure I can uncover the whole truth."
Suyu remained silent, like a machine devoid of emotion, just eating.
Ni Yang frowned slightly and decided to use a different tactic. Judging by Suyu’s reactions, what she cared about most was that child.
"Staying silent won’t solve anything and might even harm that child. Don’t tell me you’re willing to watch that child meet with misfortune. From what I understand, neither Zheng Lingling nor Doctor Jiang is known for their compassion!"
Just then, Suyu hurriedly finished the rice in her bowl, looked up at Ni Yang, and said, "I don’t understand what you’re saying! What child? I don’t know anything! I need to rest now! Please leave."
"Great-aunt, are you sure you don’t want to say anything? I know that you’re starting to recover your memories."
"There’s nothing to say." Suyu pushed Ni Yang towards the door, "I don’t understand anything you’re saying."
