Chapter 789: 203: Please give me another chance! _6
After paying, Ni Yang walked out.
Wu Yanyun had almost finished eating. Ni Yang had just eaten at Guose Tianxiang for lunch, and she couldn’t take in another bite. She had only eaten one dumpling soup from her bowl.
Just then, the lady boss emerged carrying a big bag. “Young lady, these are the five portions of dumpling soup you packed.”
Wasn’t it said that takeaway wasn’t allowed here?
Wu Yanyun looked at Ni Yang in surprise.
Ni Yang pushed the bag towards Wu Yanyun. “This is for you. Take it home for your brother and your family to enjoy.”
Wu Yanyun quickly refused, “No, I can’t accept it!” Ni Yang had been kind enough already, how could she accept more from her?
Ni Yang gave a light laugh. “It’s okay. Everybody has their fair share of hardships. Just take it.”
Wu Yanyun was so moved that she was at a loss for words. She was on the verge of tears. “Yangyang…”
Ni Yang patted Wu Yanyun’s hand. “I’ve been in a worse situation than you are in now, Yanyun. Hang in there. There’s no hurdle in life we can’t get through.” She had somehow managed to get through all the hardships in her past life.
“Yes.” Wu Yanyun nodded.
Ni Yang continued: “I’ve tasted my dumpling soup, but I didn’t touch the potstickers and the eggs. If you don’t mind, you can take them too.”
Wu Yanyun finally understood. When Ni Yang said that takeouts weren’t allowed, she was just trying to make from Wu Yanyun eat more. She felt a lump in her throat. The tears that she had been holding back began to flow again.
“I don’t mind, I don’t mind,” Wu Yanyun’s head was nodding, “Yangyang, thank you!”
When she was able, she wanted to be like Ni Yang – someone who spreads warmth.
Ni Yang stood up. “I have something else to take care of, I’m leaving now.”
“I’ll walk you out.” Wu Yanyun also got up.
Ni Yang smiled and said: “No need, we are not going the same way.” With that, she turned and walked towards the Agricultural Market.
Wu Yanyun called over the lady boss and had Ni Yang’s portion of dumpling soup packed as well.
As she was about to leave, Wu Yanyun accidentally found a five-yuan bill and three one-yuan banknotes in the bag.
“Boss, where did this money come from?” Wu Yanyun asked.
The lady boss grinned. “That young lady who was with you just now told me to put it in the bag.”
Wu Yanyun was slightly taken aback and then she realized what Ni Yang had done. Ni Yang was probably trying to protect her dignity with that gesture.
She truly was a good person!
Wu Yanyun silently acknowledged in her heart.
When she was carrying the dumpling soup home, she bumped into the landlord, Wu Lan, coming out of the courtyard.
Wu Lan noticed a peculiar expression on Wu Yanyun’s face for a moment and then quickly resumed her smile. “Yanyun, you’re back.”
Wu Yanyun nodded, “Aunt Lan.”
Wu Dalong and Wu Erlong came bounding out of the courtyard. “Big sister! Big sister is home! Big sister, what are you carrying? It smells so good!”
Wu Yanyun smiled and said: “Of course, it’s something good. Wait a moment. I’ll divide it up in the kitchen.”
Wu Dalong was jumping with joy.
Wu Yanyun kept the other five portions of dumpling soup for dinner and took out Ni Yang’s portion separately, dividing it into three.
Ni Yang had just symbolically eaten a mouthful of her portion. Since it was a larger portion, it could be divided into three bowls.
Wu Yanyun’s voice was a little bitter, “I know…”
Their grandmother said, “If you are sensible, you should help your parents more. You are eighteen, no longer a child! Our family is in this mess because of you!”
Wu Yanyun nodded in agreement.
After leaving their grandmother’s room, Wu Yanyun’s previously joyous mood had turned somber once more.
She knew her grandmother’s words had a deeper meaning, but she didn’t understand her true intention.
Wu Yanyun looked up at the somewhat grey sky, wishing she could give herself a cathartic cry.
…
The Deming Pavillion was located at the busiest street in Beijing.
The area near the DeMing Pavilion was unusually tranquil because it was the residence of a nobleman.
This nobleman was none other than Master Du.
Master Du stood by a small pond in the garden, feeding fishes, while Wang Ziqi reported the information he had found, “Master Du, Mister Zheng’s biological granddaughter is named Ni Yang. She’s nineteen years old. She used to live in Dam Village in Haicheng with her birth mother, Ni Cuihua. Two years ago, after her parents divorced, she moved to Beijing with her mother…”
“Ni Yang?” Master Du scattered a handful of fish food into the pond. “Look up Ni Yang’s whereabouts on that night then.”
Although according to Wang Ziqi’s findings, Ni Yang seemed to be an ordinary village girl, Master Du knew she was no ordinary person.
Wang Ziqi was momentarily taken aback before nodding in acknowledgement.
“Third brother, who is this lady you are going to such lengths for this time?” A fashionable woman approached from afar.
Wang Ziqi respectfully greeted, “Second Miss.”
Master Du glanced back, absentmindedly twirling his prayer beads, “She saved my life. She is not a paramour. Second sister, when did you arrive in Beijing?”
