Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse novel Chapter 202

Chapter 202 -202: Strange Zombie Horde

The wheat in the Spirit Field had turned golden, but now no one had the energy to harvest it.

Grandma Li Xiuying, seeing everyone exhausted, brought over many thirst-quenching fruits and a few cups of well water from the space. Everyone knew this well water not only contained spiritual power but also replenished their energy, so they all started drinking it.

After a sip of water, they felt much better and began discussing the day’s events with grandma and grandpa while eating fruits.

“There are still people living on this mountain top?” Lin Yunguo asked in surprise.

“They probably think that living in seclusion will help them avoid zombies,” Lin Xiuyuan commented as he bit into a juicy peach. He felt those two were too confident, which might not necessarily be a good thing.

“We have already advised them, but they still chose to stick with their decision. Let’s hope they stay safe,” Su Jin said. If the opportunity arose, they would come back here to hunt again since this outing had been quite fruitful.

They hoped that when they returned, they would still find those two people safe and sound.

Su Xiangzhe also told the elders about the mutated ferret they encountered today. Li Xiuying was very interested in this mutated ferret and was somewhat disappointed when she learned Lu Hao had burnt it with fire. She had only seen such transforming spirits in “Journey to the West” and “Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio,” and had not expected to encounter them in reality now that the apocalypse had arrived.

“It was a mutated ferret, grandma. Do you still want your son-in-law to catch one for you to play with?” Lin Xiuyuan joked.

“Better not, ferrets are so smelly,” Li Xiuying replied, although she was actually very curious about the ferret’s illusion technique, but she was too shy to say anything.

“Not smelly, it’s fragrant. Next time I encounter one, I’ll catch it for grandma,” Lu Hao said seriously, not appearing to be joking in the least.

After hearing this, Li Xiuying hurriedly waved her hands saying it was not necessary, she would rather play with Local Tyrant Gold since it was much cuter.

“Grandma, did uncle and his family not come in today?” Su Jin noticed that Aunt Huang Yunxiang was constantly glancing at the wall clock, probably worried about the uncle’s group. By now they should have returned, but they still hadn’t, which could mean they were delayed or had encountered some danger.

“After you all went out today, they haven’t come in yet. Shouldn’t they be back by now?” Li Xiuying said.

“They should be back soon, let’s wait a bit longer,” Su Jin said, trying to prevent everyone from worrying.

It wasn’t long before Mrs. Su Lin Tianhui came in, but she was alone.

“Sister-in-law, why haven’t Lin Cheng and the others come back yet?” Huang Yunxiang asked anxiously.

“Don’t worry, they’re fine. Lin Cheng had a minor injury, which I’ve already healed. They’re still at Liang Jiuhui’s place. I came in to let you know so you wouldn’t worry,” Lin Tianhui said and then grabbed Su Xiangzhe’s water cup to drink voraciously.

“Mom, how did uncle get hurt? Are you okay?” Su Jin asked, voicing the concern of everyone present.

“I’m fine, don’t worry. As someone working logistics, I’m even less likely to get hurt. Just give me a moment to catch my breath,” Lin Tianhui said, looking as though she had just finished running a marathon, breathless and exhausted.

“As long as you’re okay, take a rest now, we can talk later,” Su Xiangzhe said while gently patting her back to comfort her.

Lin Cheng shook his head; at that time, his only thought was how to kill the zombies, and he hadn’t noticed anything specific about them.

“If you’re talking about something unusual, I actually felt there was,” Mao Zhihang next to Lin Cheng said.

Liang Jiuhui and the few others in the room all turned their attention to Mao Zhihang, who thought for a moment and then said, “I felt like they were chasing something, but their target wasn’t in the direction of our base.”

“Yes, yes, yes! They even took a detour at one point, and it was only later that they were drawn by the cries of people inside the base walls!” Lin Cheng suddenly remembered. He was on the wall, which was over a meter high, and he had seen the zombie horde turn a corner, attracted later by the shouting from others on the wall.

“What did you say?!” Liang Jiuhui stood up when he heard this.

“Could it be that person?” Xu Shi said from behind Liang Jiuhui.

Liang Jiuhui pondered for a while, then, realizing the three were still waiting to return, he immediately had Guan Hong bring out a small bag of Crystal Cores and handed it to Lin Cheng.

Lin Cheng had not intended to accept, after all, protecting the base was also like protecting his family and his own safety. However, Liang Jiuhui insisted, and eventually, Mao Zhihang took the bag of Crystal Cores, and Liang Jiuhui then had someone escort them back.

“Is it really okay for us to accept this?” Lin Tianzhen asked after the person who had escorted them had left.

“Have you guys forgotten what Xiao Jin said? It would be worse not to accept,” Mao Zhihang said with a smile, confident that Su Jin, if present, would not refuse the small bag of Crystal Cores either.

The trio then reassured, made their way back.
