Chapter 198 -One Hundred Ninety-Eight: Going Out
In the space over these days, Su Jin and Lu Hao went out two more times to clear the Mutated Beasts from the spirit-gathering trapping formations, and finally, Lin Xiuyuan discovered them.
“Tell me, you two, how could you do this behind our backs, huh? Couldn’t you have called me when you went out?”
Lin Xiuyuan paced back and forth on the empty ground strewn with the corpses of Mutated Beasts. Night hunting sounded very exciting, but these two had silently killed so many Mutated Beasts and brought them back, which couldn’t possibly have been done in one go. If he hadn’t been too leisurely and strolled over here, he wouldn’t have seen the huge pile of Mutated Beast corpses.
“Aren’t you busy? So, I didn’t call you,”
Su Jin responded while poking open the head of a Green Sheep on the ground, its Beast Core dissipating into tiny sparkling particles in the air.
“I was just helping Qiqi and the others freeze some ice cream, I wasn’t really busy!”
Lin Xiuyuan was frantic. These past few days, everyone at home had started making desserts in the space, especially his mom, who, after baking a lot of small cakes, had started making ice cream.
Since there was no refrigerator in the space, he was tasked with freezing the ice cream that Huang Yunxiang and Mao Qiqi had made together. Although the result was quite good, it tasted a bit weird, feeling more like shaved ice.
They made several servings of ice cream. Mao Qiqi even brought a serving to Nie Qing and the others who were watching TV. No one had expected to enjoy ice cream in the apocalypse, yet Lin Xiuyuan’s Ice-Element Special Abilities proved to be very useful indeed.
…
On the fourth day, they finally came out of the space. Nie Qing stretched lazily; during these days in the space, he did nothing but watch TV and eat. Lu Guanhai and Su Xiangzhe had even gone to the supermarket area behind the space to pick out lots of snacks, so even while watching TV, he never stopped eating. Now, he finally could get out and move his muscles.
“Eh? Is this a formation set up by you, Old Nie?”
Lu Guanhai was the first to notice two formations not far away, filled with Mutated Beasts. He didn’t remember Nie Qing setting this up before they entered the space.
“Formation? I didn’t set one up,”
Having said that, Nie Qing then noticed the two formations on the ground ahead. He walked over, looked around, and asked, “Apprentice, did you set this up?”
Lu Hao had only looked it over once.
It seemed he had just mentioned the key steps of setting the formation, and this kid had learned it?
“Yes, it’s very useful,” Lu Hao replied with a smile. He and Su Jin had already used it several times and found the formation to be really good.
Well, although Nie Qing said nothing more, he was still extremely surprised inside. His apprentice was naturally intelligent and had a talent for setting formations, but memorizing the method after just one look was something even he couldn’t achieve in his younger years.
All formations required continuous study and repeated practice to be utilized fluently, but Lu Hao, it seemed, had mastered it after just one look. Was this what they called a prodigious genius?
“Jiji jiji!”
Following the chirping of Local Tyrant Gold, the group noticed that Lu Hao had walked in the wrong direction again.
He was actually heading down the mountain…
Su Jin helplessly reached out to grab him, wondering if she should bring out a dog leash from the space.
Nie Qing watched and then shook his head with a laugh, perhaps he was overthinking it.
Two spirit-gathering trapping formations were again crammed with Mutated Beasts, including several spiky hedgehogs. Other Mutated Beasts locked up with the hedgehogs were unfortunate, each being turned into porcupines, leaving only a few larger Green Sheep and elk, which were also handled by Lin Xiuyuan and others as a morning exercise.
Su Jin and Lu Hao unusually did not intervene, as it was also crucial for everyone to enhance their strength.
After settling things there, the group walked up the mountain. As it was still early, they planned to walk all the way to the summit to see if they could encounter larger Mutated Beasts.
Whether it was fortunate or unfortunate, just when the group had gotten somewhat tired, a two-meter-tall brown bear appeared before them.
“Roar~~~~”
The brown bear was left without much ability to retaliate. It wanted to counterattack, but its limbs had already been frozen to the ground by Lin Xiuyuan’s Ice Spikes.
By now, Lu Hao had infused his Special Ability into the Tang Sword and forcefully chopped at the brown bear’s neck!
“Roar roar…”
With its dying roars fading, the brown bear whose neck was slashed finally fell heavily to the ground…
“Come out!” Lu Hao called out towards a direction.
Someone?!
The group looked at Lu Hao in surprise — How had they not noticed anyone?
True to Lu Hao’s words, a middle-aged man and woman emerged from the bush.
“Hello, please don’t misunderstand. We just heard the bear’s roar, so we came to check it out. We won’t take your prey,” the man quickly explained, fearful of being misunderstood by the formidable group.
Lin Xiuyuan approached a bit closer and observed the couple.
“Have I seen you somewhere before?”
Lin Xiuyuan racked his brain.
“Perhaps on television?” the middle-aged woman asked with a smile. She was no longer quite young, but her features were distinct and quite striking.
“I remember now! Aren’t you the couple from the Wilderness Survival program!” Lin Xiuyuan exclaimed excitedly. He had watched that show before the Apocalypse and often discussed it with his classmates. These two were the main characters of that program!
“Yes, that’s us. It’s rare for anyone to recognize us now,” the man said with a smile to the woman beside him.
