Under the pressure of everyone's glares, Darryl quickly came out with a response. He smiled and said, "Honorable Fiend Martyr, I think we should be careful. I know the demons aren't as powerful as the fiend race, but they have tens of thousands of troops. Proceeding recklessly might prove to be dangerous."
Darryl looked at Oliver and said, "Plus, he's the son of the Black Tortoise King. His position within the demon race is not to be ignored. Who knows if he's genuinely trying to help us? What if he made an agreement with the demon tribe with plans to ambush us? Aren't we digging our own graves then?"
Darryl shook his head as he pretended to doubt Oliver.
If it were any other time, Darryl would not vilify Oliver the way he did.
However, he had no other choice. He had to protect the Demon tribe's safety. On top of that, Oliver did slander him in the past. He's just returning the favor.
As soon as the words rang through the air, everyone in the camp buzzed in conversation.
"That makes sense too."
"Right, that kid does look like a snake. Who knows if he's actually genuine? What if he betrays us? We need to be cautious."
"I mean, he lost his legs. He doesn't have that kind of courage, right?"
Some of the warriors agreed with Darryl, while some thought he was paranoid.
Oliver got increasingly agitated.
F*ck!
Oliver was frustrated and exasperated as he said, "Shut your filthy mouth, Darryl Darby! Why would I ever betray the Honorable Fiend Martyr?!"
Oliver turned his head toward Morticia. "Honorable Fiend Martyr, please disregard the nonsense that Darryl is spewing. I owe my life to you, and I'd never do such detestable things. I swear to follow you forever and to go through hell and high water for you. Please believe me!"
Oliver was engulfed in rage and anxiety. He glared at Darryl and wished desperately that he could kill him right then and there.
He could not believe the audacity Darryl had to vilify him in front of the Fiend Martyr and tried to turn her against him. What an evil person!
Morticia pondered that.
The camp fell into a silence that filled the air with tension.
"Fine!"
After what felt like hours, Morticia snapped back to her senses and took a good look at her surroundings. She finally responded to Darryl. "I understand where you're coming from. But I've decided to go with Oliver's instincts. I trust my people. I've decided. Everyone, get ready! We're about to set off."
Morticia stood up without hesitation and led everyone else out of the tent.
The fiend race warriors followed closely behind.
Sh*t!
Darryl appeared to be calm, but his heart was engulfed in anxiety.
