It was true that when a child asked, the tone could come off as too perfunctory.

Raven doo understood this loge

However, she wasn’t overly concerned. After all, Matteo’s purpose was simply to report to the old lady. Him going upstairs to call Freya didart mean anything more.

Matteo had never had any feelings for Freya, and it was even less likely now.

Isabella, on the other hand, was anxious the tightly pursed her lips, dearly worried

She was afraid that if Matteo went upstairs to call her, her mother might actually come down. After all, her mother was the most likely to listen to her father.

Back in her room, Freya had ordered some food and was busy working on her computer.

After a while, she heard the sound of a door opening

She looked up and saw Matteo entering the room with a room card in hand.

Thinking he had just returned to fetch something, she gave him a cursory glance and then returned her attention to

her work

But before she could continue typing, Matteo spoke.

“The bonfire feast downstairs is quite lively. Would you like to come down and join us?”

Freya paused

Just like Levi, she also thought Matteo had only come upstairs to invite her as a way of placating the old lady. It didn’t mean anything more than that

And even if it did mean something, she didn’t care anymore.

“I still have work to do, so I won’t be coming down,” she replied. Then, as if to reassure him, she added, “Don’t worry. If Grandma asks, I’ll make sure to cooperate.”

Upon hearing this, Matteo gave her a fleeting smile. His deep, intense gaze lingered on her for a moment

Freya, noticing his gaze, felt a slight uncase. Though they had known each other for many years and had been married for so long, she often felt like she didn’t truly understand him.

His emotions always seemed veiled, and she couldn’t help but wonder what was going on inside his mind.

In the past, she might have tried to probe into his thoughts, but now…

She pressed her lips together, sticking to her decision. “Thank you for coming to get me, but I don’t want to go.”

Matteo silently smiled again, his eyes holding a mysterious depth. “Understood.”

Without saying anything further, he turned and left the room.

By the time Matteo returned downstairs, the others were already eating.

They were all surprised to see that he had come back alone. They had expected that since he had personally gone up to invite Freya, she would surely come down.

Harry asked with a hint of curiosity, “She didn’t come down?”

“No,” Matteo replied shortly.

Then, he turned to the staff and said, “Please bring a portion of the barbecue, pancake, and the salad to the room for my wife.”

After the staff delivered the food, Freya wam’t planning to waste so much food, but she couldn’t refuse.

Just as she was working Johnny started the video conference early and asked Freya for some materials. When Freya entered, he saw that she was eating and couldn’t help but ask, “What are you eating? It looks so good.”“

Freya turned the camera slightly to show the spread of food on her table. When others joined the meeting, they were surprised to see the extravagant array of food.

“So much? Are you just starting to eat? one of them asked.

Freya smiled and replied, “No, I’m almost done.”

You’re eating all this by yourself?” Johnny asked, shocked.

Freya paused before explaining. It wasn’t me who ordered it.”

Did your husband order it? Johnny immediately realized.

“Mm, he had someone bring it to me,” Freya replied lightly.

“Well, at least he’s got a bit of conscience,” Johnny joked.

Freya didn’t want to delve into it too much. She understood that this was just an attempt by Matteo to appease her grandmother, not because he was concerned about her.

Seeing that she had eaten to the point of being full and the meeting time was drawing near, Freya stopped eating, asked the staff to clear the table, and moved her laptop away.

She then refocused on the task at hand and resumed work.

The meeting continued until late in the night, around 10:00 p.m., but no one seemed willing to stop working. Just as Freya and her colleagues were fully immersed in their work, the door opened.

Matteo walked in.
