The Harvest family chose a small, private island for Claudia and Gideon’s engagement party. The roses decorating the island were flown in from private estates abroad, and the family had spent a fortune hiring several world-renowned chefs. Even the party favors for the guests were worth a million each.
The gown and jewelry Claudia wore were personally prepared by Gideon's mom and the young ladies of the family. Even the guest list had been meticulously curated by the Harvests themselves. Gideon’s parents personally accompanied Claudia’s parents throughout the event. The ceremony was lavish beyond belief, and the entire affair gave the Watkins family an immense amount of honor.
Claudia was surrounded by a crowd of wealthy socialites and young heiresses. When she saw Peter and Darleen approaching from a distance, she gathered her dress and went to meet them.
Peter sent Darleen away for a moment so he could have a frank word with Claudia.
“I know this might not be the right time or place for this,” Peter began, “but I still have to ask you one thing.”
He watched Claudia’s expression closely. “Even if it’s impossible with York, are you absolutely certain that Gideon is the right one for you?”
Claudia knew what Peter was worried about. They had been friends since childhood, and he had witnessed firsthand the depth of her feelings for York. For her to suddenly turn around and throw herself into someone else’s arms, he must have thought she was acting out of spite.
In Peter’s eyes, her split from York was inexplicable, and her relationship with Gideon was just as baffling. Others might not understand, but she and York knew the truth better than anyone.
Having lived two lives, she knew exactly what kind of person Gideon was. This time, she was sure she hadn't made the wrong choice.
Gideon walked over and greeted Peter warmly. His gaze on Claudia was soft and full of light. “The ceremony is about to start.”
Claudia smiled and took Gideon’s arm.
Peter offered his congratulations. “Congratulations to you both.”
Standing at the back of the crowd, Peter watched as Claudia walked down the red carpet on Gideon’s arm. He saw her shed tears during Gideon’s vows and sighed silently.
York was officially out of the picture.
At the same time, in a hotel suite in Maronia, York stared at a screen. Claudia, in a magnificent gown, was on Gideon's arm, her face radiant with happiness. A sharp pain twisted in his heart.
York’s dark eyes were fixed on the screen. The roses on the island were beautiful, and the image of the new couple embracing for a kiss was picture-perfect.
