The next morning, York headed out.
Peter was waiting at the door with breakfast. “When did you change the security code?”
York’s eyes were shadowed with fatigue. “Don’t forget to pick up Darleen after school tonight.”
Peter watched as York stepped into the elevator. He had just warned York last night to get rid of Claudia’s things, and this morning the locks were already changed. Claudia was with Gideon now; holding onto those things would only trap York in the past.

One week later, Gideon was discharged from the hospital.
At home, Gideon’s father brought something up with the family. “Wanda’s father has approached me several times. He wants his daughter transferred back to her original position at Capital City Hospital. What does everyone think?”
Gideon was the first to object. “Dad, you know exactly why I had Wanda transferred out of province. Claudia is still unwilling to go public with our relationship. If she comes back, how am I supposed to live my life?”
Gideon's mom also disapproved. “Wanda is arrogant and domineering. She’s dead set on having our Gideon. You’ve worked so hard to find a wonderful partner, don’t be the one to mess it up.”
Jackie spoke up. “Gideon, why don’t you just propose to Dr. Watkins? Once your relationship is public…”
Gideon had his reservations. “I’ll think about the proposal later.” Their relationship was still new. Rushing things might scare her away.
“I’m going to the kitchen to make some breakfast for Claudia. You all can talk,” Gideon said, getting up. Worried about his cooking skills, Gideon's mom and Jackie hurried after him to help.
