When Claudia Watkins got home, her parents were in the kitchen making lunch.
Looking around the familiar Windsor family home, Claudia still couldn't calm down.
Her heart was hammering against her ribs, threatening to burst from her chest.
Her wedding to York Ferguson was set for the end of the month. To ensure appearances were kept, York had bought this spacious downtown apartment for her parents and younger brother to live in.
The property was worth over eleven million.
York had also given her parents a bank card, into which his finance department would deposit a hundred thousand every month. He’d called it a living allowance, a gesture of respect for her parents.
He had also paid off the Watkins family's massive debts.
In her past life, York had kept a meticulous record of every single one of these expenses, and in the end, he had made her settle every last one.
Fortunately, her brother was only in the eighth grade this year, attending a top-tier middle school in the city. York hadn't yet sent him to an elite private academy.
She had to return all this money to York as soon as possible, sever all ties, and refuse to marry him under any circumstances.
Now that she had a second chance, she was determined not to make the same mistakes again.
"Claudia, why are you back alone? Where's York?"
"Did you get the marriage certificate? Let me see it."
Her parents' voices snapped Claudia back to the present.
Looking at them, who appeared several years younger than she remembered, Claudia felt her eyes well up. At this point, her mother's heart condition hadn't worsened to the point of needing surgery, and both her parents were still relatively healthy.
This was good.
