Claudia stood frozen, taking a long moment to react.
"Rock," she said, "please take me home to change."
Back at home, Claudia changed into a black dress.
Eddy grabbed his coat, ready to go with her. "Sis, the Fergusons lost two family members in two days. Their emotions must be running high. I'll go with you."
Claudia shook her head, taking the coat from Eddy's hands and placing it back on the sofa.
Her expression turned serious. "Don't worry about me. No matter how the Fergusons treat me, I have to go."
Though Felix and Jessica were worried, they didn't try to stop her.
In the end, at Rock's insistence, Claudia went to the Ferguson Mansion with him.
In the early hours of the morning, the gates of the Ferguson Mansion were wide open as Rock's car drove slowly in.
When Claudia got out of the car, Peter was already there to meet her.
After just one day, Peter looked haggard and exhausted.
He said to her, "The main branches of the family are here. Everyone else will arrive tomorrow morning. Mr. Ferguson and Aunt Wendy are in really bad shape, and Darleen is at her breaking point. That's why I called you."
Claudia nodded without a word.
She followed silently behind Peter. The early winter morning was pitch black, but the darkness hanging over the Ferguson estate seemed even deeper.
The busy Ferguson staff moved about with their heads down, quietly attending to their duties.
When Claudia reached the entrance to the living room, she saw Darleen being supported by relatives, barely able to stand.
She stopped in front of Darleen. "Darleen, I am so sorry."
She was determined not to turn back, but this was not the outcome she had ever wanted to see.
Darleen's tears had long since run dry, but seeing Claudia, they began to fall again.
She stood in place, her voice hoarse as she looked at Claudia. "My brother said not to blame you."
