Natural Disasters Strikes: I stockpiled like crazy! novel Chapter 44

[Eight Day, Main Evacuation Center no. 1 near the Military Base of Pearl City]

After being rescued by the military, Professor Zhang Heng and the others were escorted to a bomb shelter.

The teachers didn’t have high expectation for the evacuation center but upon arriving, they were met with a large clean hall.

In the hall, there were others lining up on the reception desk, listing their names. Each of the people we’re given a set of hygiene kit, one clean blanket, clean clothes, a warm meal packed in a small styrofoam box.

A pair of father and son passed by them, the teachers, security guard, and the utility man looked at the congee filled with diced chicken and vegetables, mantou, and braised beef cubes and couldn’t help but bobbed their throats.

Because of the flood barriers suddenly being destroyed, they were unable to eat breakfast properly. Seeing the warm food, their stomachs made sounds.

Not only that, they happen to hear the pair of father and son’s conversation.

"Let’s hurry up and find our room and so we can eat."

There’s warm food and room for the evacuees?! Not cold meals or sharing tents?

They didn’t expect this at all!

The officer made them lined up.

Receiving their supplies, the people were relieved and their minds wandered to their families.

Were they able to evacuate as well?

Professor Zhang Heng and Xiao Hei followed behind. Soon, it was their turns.

Xiao Hei registered his name before Professor Zhang He.

When the officer was done, he retrieved the list and was about to signal the logistic team to give the supplies when his eyes landed on the Professor Zhang Heng’s name.

Finding it familiar, he called someone to verify the name to their superior. "Have someone look at the database."

"Yes, Sir!"

The officer asked Professor Zhang Heng to wait at the side.

Not long after the errand officer came back, with a Colonel. He was tall, fit, had a thick white beard and a small scar on his eyebrows.

The officers on duty stood and gave him salute.

"At ease."

The Colonel approached and greeted Professor Zhang Heng before asking him to follow him along the base.

Professor Zhang Heng didn’t have a choice.

They walked in the winding narrow pathways until they reached a laboratory.

….

Startled, Lu Nanzhi looked up.

Her eyes narrowed seeing the man and unpleasant memories surged in her head, shrouding her face with coldness.

She didn’t expect him to be here.

The man who wanted to strike a conversation with Nanzhi and got shoved away was irritated and tugged the newcomer’s arms harshly but when he recognized it was Sun He, he could only swallow his grievance and walked away.

Unfortunately, when Nanzhi reached her parents’ grave, they were already gone.

That smile and laugh always bothered her until now.

"Little beauty, don’t mind Auntie Qi. She’s just always like that. If she pesters you again, you can come to my unit. Auntie Qi always listened to my words."

Nanzhi didn’t say anything. Her eyes trailed ahead.

Sun He was always proud of his looks that he inherited from his Mother. Women flocked to him like moths drawn to a flame. Thus, when Nanzhi ignored his advances, his interest was ignited.

That indifferent and cold attitude were exactly his type.

Unfortunately because Auntie Qi was already present, he had no choice but to set aside the flirting first.

"Be quiet!"

The moment Nanzhi heard that voice, her ears perked up and she tiptoed to see the speaker and once she saw the strict and grouchy face framed by wild curls, Nanzhi’s eyes dimmed.

It was really Qi Meiying, the previous HOA’s board member of her building apartment in the past.

She was the one who implemented the centralized distribution and one of those people who hoarded all the supplies.

In just less than a day, she met three familiar faces, the sheer coincidence made her had mixed feelings.

Why is Qi Meiying here and not in Jade City?

"Just this morning, we received news that the government had issued bigger boats to the city proper and started rescuing people and distributing supplies including food, water, and medicine. After a few days, they are going to go to pass by this area too."
