Suddenly, Adina’s phone vibrated.
She took a glance at her phone screen. It was a video call from her four children.
Duke took the call and the four children’s faces popped up.
“Mommy, our winter break starts today!” George spoke first.
“Mommy, the teacher says we’ll have a one-month holiday. Can we go to your place to play?” Harold blinked as he asked.
Adina smiled bitterly.
‘Earl, the devil, is back in Sea City. I don’t dare to meet my children.
If they bumped into him, he might regard them as the thorn in his flesh.
“I’ll be busy for the next few days. I might not be able to spend time with you.” Adina smiled gently and said, “There are still ten more days until New Year. Daddy and I will go back on New Year’s Eve and celebrate with you all, okay?”
Melody tilted her head and said, “I’ve never celebrated New Year.”
Alden said, “We celebrated New Year when we were abroad. Mel, you were too young to remember it.”
“Wow, we’re going to celebrate New Year with Mommy this year.” Harold clapped his hand happily. “Mommy, what kind of New Year’s gift do you want? I’ll prepare to get you one in advance.”
Adina chuckled. “As long as you all are healthy and happy, I’ll be happy too.”
“That won’t do. Mommy, you must tell me what you want.” Harold shook his head. “Do you want a scarf, a hat, or a coat?”
Adina felt warmth spreading throughout her heart. She knew that she should not continue chatting with her children. Otherwise, it would trigger a command again.
She raised her hand to touch her hair. When she was about to speak, Alden narrowed his eyes, “Mommy, what happened to the back of your hand?”
There was blood oozing out of the wound that had just been bandaged. The white gauze was stained with blood, and it looked a bit terrifying.
Adina instinctively hid her hands in her sleeves and smiled indifferently, “I accidentally hurt the back of my hand today when I was cutting vegetables. I’ve already treated it, it’s fine.”
Alden nodded. He pursed his lips and shifted his gaze at Duke. “Daddy, the program you asked me to crack last time is very interesting.”
‘Al already guessed that something was off, but he neither asked her anything nor I said anything about it.
‘This child must’ve suffered…’
Adina nodded. “Alright, I’ll let Al try.”
Alden arrived by evening. His other siblings wanted to come too, but George was able to persuade them to stay.
Alden followed the bodyguard to the front door. When he looked up, he saw Adina sitting on the couch in the living room.
Her loose-fitting housecoat made her look particularly thin.
It has been thirteen days since they met, his first time being separated from Adina for so long.
“Mommy.”
He tried to stay calm, but the moment he spoke, tears welled up in the corner of his eyes.
