My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 143

Lily bit her lip. She took a deep breath before answering. “I’m not disappointed. I’m just… sad. Sad that he hid things from me. I thought we were at least friends...” she paused, shaking her head. “Doesn’t matter what I thought. But there’s one thing I’m clear about, Jabco. I still haven’t divorced David. There’s no way I’ll be with another man while tied to him. And even after I get divorced… I have no intention of being with anyone.”

Jabco frowned slightly. “Why?”

“Because I already gave my entire youth to David and his company. My love, my time, everything. And in return, I got nothing but betrayal. Now…” her lips curved into a sad smile, “now it’s my time to shine. For myself. Not for any man.”

For a moment, Jabco didn’t say anything. His chest ached at her words. Then, slowly, he whispered, “I’ll support you. No matter what. Always.”

Lily let out a small laugh. “You sound like a big brother comforting his little sister.”

He chuckled too, but deep inside, her laugh cut him. If only she knew how he really felt.

The waves crashed harder against the shore. Silence stretched between them, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. It was peaceful.

After a while, Lily tilted her head, studying him. " did you know Sofia had someone she loves?”

He didn’t look at her. “Yes. We were clear from the beginning. This engagement was never about love. It was about business, about family pressure. She told me she loved someone else.”

Lily’s brows furrowed. “Then the only thing you didn’t know was that person being Carson Bennett.”

He finally met her gaze. His eyes were sharp but sad. “Yes.”

“What are you going to do now?” she asked softly.

He took a deep breath, the cold air filling his lungs. “Do you really think I’ll stand between two people who genuinely love each other? No. I can’t. I won’t. I’ll talk to the elders and cancel this engagement. Whatever the consequences.”

Lily stared at him. Her chest tightened with something she couldn’t name. Respect. Admiration. Maybe even envy. She had never seen someone like him. When she first met Jabco Grey, she thought he was just another arrogant, spoiled, successful man. But now… he was proving her wrong.

“You’re not like the others,” she whispered.

He smiled faintly. “Neither are you.”

The night grew colder, but neither of them moved. They sat there, shoulders brushing, staring at the vast sea as if it was the only thing that made sense in their chaotic lives.

Hours passed like seconds. They didn’t even notice how the sky slowly shifted from black to deep blue, then orange and pink.

“Look…” Lily whispered, pointing at the horizon.

The sun was rising, painting the sea in golden light. It was breathtaking.

Without thinking, Jabco pulled out his phone. “We should capture this.”
