Lily’s breath hitched when she recognized the man. The familiar slope of his shoulders, the sharp line of his jaw. Her voice came out in a stunned whisper.
“Carson…?”
it was Carson Bennett. The same Carson who had been chasing her, insisting she belonged to him.
Jabco’s head whipped toward Lily, his eyes sharp. “You know him?”
“Yes.” Lily swallowed, still stunned. “This is Carson Bennett. You...met him yesterday. Outside the company.” Her eyes dropped to where Carson’s fingers were wrapped firmly around the woman’s hand.
Now Jabco remember it.
The woman’s face was pale, her lips trembling as if she had just been caught in the middle of something she shouldn’t be.
Lily narrowed her eyes. “And that woman…” She looked closer, realization dawning. “They look… close.”
Her gaze flicked from their joined hands to Carson’s face.
“Who is she?” Lily asked quietly, her voice careful but laced with suspicion. “They don’t look like strangers.”
Jabco’s throat tightened. His voice was low, almost dangerous.
“She,” he said slowly, “is Sofia. My fiancée.”
“Your fiancé?” Lily’s eyes widened in shock as she looked at Sofia.
Carson’s voice was low, frustrated. “Sofía, what do you actually want from me? I told you before, I need an answer. You said you’re convincing your father, but how long do I have to wait?”
“I am convincing him,” Sofía snapped back. “Just give me some more time.”
“Time?” Carson let out a dry laugh. “How much more time do you need? Didn’t you already see it yourself, Jabco walking around with another woman? Don’t they look a little too close for business partners? I told you yesterday, I saw them together in her office. And tonight too, didn’t you notice how comfortable they looked with each other?” His tone rose, thick with frustration.
Outside the door, Lily’s brows furrowed. She exchanged a stunned glance with Jabco. “Wait… are they talking about us?” she whispered.
