My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 118

Carson smirked, his gaze fixed on Lily as if enjoying her reaction. “My dear sister,” he drawled, his tone mocking. “I never thought you had such a special gift for me. I’m impressed.”

Lily froze. Her stomach twisted even tighter. The way he was looking at her while saying those words, it felt like he was eating her alive with his eyes.

Claire’s voice boomed on the phone, filled with irritation. “What nonsense are you speaking? Don’t tell me you’re high.”

Carson chuckled low. “Nah, sis. But I think I’ll be high soon. Your gift is really beautiful.” His words were thick with playfulness, but they made Lily’s skin prickle uncomfortably.

Lily looked down quickly, avoiding his eyes, but she could feel them burning into her.

“What....” Claire suddenly cut herself off. Her tone shifted, sharp with surprise. “Are you in the country? When did you return?”

Even though she couldn’t see her, Lily could almost imagine Claire jumping from her chair, her cold face breaking with shock.

Carson grinned wider. He turned his head slightly, still looking at Lily. “Oh, yes. And thank you for the warm welcome. But more than that, I should thank you for your… generosity. This gift you left in my house...” he gestured at Lily with a tilt of his chin “...really touched me. You’ve got a good taste in guests too.”

Lily’s cheeks burned. “I’m not...” she started, but her words caught in her throat when he raised his finger to his lips in a silent shhh.

On the other side, Claire’s voice snapped, angrier now. “I’m warning you. Don’t you dare play your games with Lily.”

Carson’s eyes lit up with amusement. He leaned a little closer toward Lily, his smile almost boyish but dangerous at the same time. “Oh? So your name is Lily. What a beautiful name.”

Lily froze, her eyes darting to him quickly, then back down to her lap. She could only nod slightly, her throat too dry to form words.

Carson smirked. “See? Even the name sounds delicate. Lily. Pure. Soft. I like it.”

Lily’s heart pounded harder. She didn’t like the way he was twisting everything into a joke, but she couldn’t find the right words to stop him.
