The women by the river were stunned when they heard Mabel's words. They wondered if the man standing before them was none other than Manfred.
Their confusion lasted only a moment, and soon after, they got their answer.
From Mabel's horrified expression, it was clear. This man was indeed Manfred.
They then looked at the woman standing beside him. The two of them looked so perfectly matched as if they were made for each other.
Moreover, Manfred's cold demeanor confirmed their suspicions. It was clear that he didn't like Mabel at all. She had been delusional to think otherwise.
Mabel had even shamelessly used Manfred to mock their ignorance as if she were trying to make fools of them.
It was truly unbelievable.
Although Mabel was terrified, her eyes still burned with a fanatical obsession.
"Mr. Atkinson, do you have feelings for me? I am willing to be your mistress, just to stay by your side. Even if it means being a mistress, I am more than willing because I know you care for me."
Her words were filled with passion.
Vivian's expression remained unchanged.
However, Manfred's gaze turned icy cold. "Who gave you the courage to speak such nonsense in front of me? Do you know the consequences of attempting to ruin my reputation?"
His two questions struck like thunder, causing Mabel's face to drain of all color. She stared at Manfred in disbelief.
"I… I…"
She couldn't understand why Manfred didn't like her, and she refused to believe it.
She had been so devoted to him, traveling from Vlario to Briarpatch just to be close to him.
Now, she was placed in this poor, remote area, and yet, he didn't care for her at all.
"Take her to Lynch Residence. I want them to discipline her properly." Manfred immediately instructed Kemp.
Mabel struggled, unwilling to leave. "No, Vivian, you must tell the truth! Did you have an ulterior motive for getting close to Mr. Atkinson? Mr. Atkinson, please don't believe her!"
Vivian suddenly walked toward Mabel.
Mabel hadn't expected Vivian to approach so suddenly and stared at her in surprise.
"You… You think just because Mr. Atkinson likes you now, you can do whatever you want?" She gritted her teeth, her eyes filled with jealousy as she spat out.
"Vivian." Manfred's voice was calm but protective as he walked over to her side.
His gaze toward Mabel was colder and even more filled with malice than before.
Mabel was immediately frightened into silence.
Then, she suddenly became aware of her situation. She felt like nothing more than a fool now.
