My ex husband wants me back (Daven and Althea) novel Chapter 674

Chapter 674

Morning arrived in Berlin beneath a pale sky, the air still carrying the last bite of the night’s cold. On the upper floor of Brandon’s modern office tower, the main conference room had been prepared an hour earlier. A long wooden table was lined with final documents, the presentation screen already lit, while two staff members stood quietly in the corner awaiting further instructions.

Brandon entered first, moving with his usual unhurried ease. His dark suit jacket hung open, unbuttoned, a cup of coffee in one hand. He looked like a man who had never truly rushed for anything in his life. A few seconds later, Cale arrived with Liu. His face was calm as always, yet something about his presence made the entire room feel instantly more formal the moment he took his seat.

“Good morning,” Brandon said as he sat across from him. “I hope your night went better than your face suggests.”

Cale looked at him flatly. “There’s nothing wrong with my face.”

“That’s exactly the problem. The bags under your eyes are terrifying.” Brandon chuckled softly, then glanced at his staff. “Let’s finish this before I get bored.”

The staff member immediately handed over the contract drafts in question.

The meeting began without unnecessary pleasantries. Final figures were discussed, distribution percentages revised, shipping schedules confirmed, and legal clauses clarified one by one. Brandon was sharp when it came to business, entirely different from the relaxed impression he always projected.

He spotted weaknesses quickly, negotiated just as fast, and was equally swift in agreeing to terms that

benefited both sides.

“The first distribution hub will be in Hong Kong,” Brandon said, tapping one of the contract pages. “I want priority access for six months.”

“You get four,” Cale replied calmly.

“Five.”

“Four and a half.” Cale spoke without looking at him, more interested in reading another section of the

contract before him.

Brandon laughed. “You really hate losing.”

“I hate wasting time.”

“Fine. Four and a half.” Brandon signed the final page and slid the file across the table. “A good deal.”

Cale reviewed it once more without haste, then signed his name. Liu collected the documents and handed them to the legal team waiting behind him.

Brandon leaned back, looking satisfied. “I have to admit, working with you is far more enjoyable than I expected.”

“I’m not here to entertain anyone.”

“That’s why I like you.” Brandon raised his coffee cup. “People who are too friendly are usually hiding

knives.”

Cale didn’t respond. He merely took a sip of the water in front of him.

Still, the agreement mattered. With Brandon’s European network and Cale’s logistics access across Asia, the project they had built together would bring enormous profit to both sides.

The atmosphere grew lighter once the documents were closed. One of the staff members entered carrying a tablet and leaned down to whisper something in Brandon’s ear. His expression shifted for a

brief moment, then one brow lifted.

“You’re sure?”

The staff member nodded at once, then lowered his head.

Brandon let out a quiet breath. “My apologies. It seems I need to step away for a moment.”

“Business problem?” Cale asked.

“No.” Brandon gave a faint smile. “Family.”

He had just turned to leave when Cale’s voice stopped him.

“Brandon.”

He looked back. “Yes?”

Cale met his gaze directly. “What is your connection to the Falcony family?”

For the first time that morning, Brandon looked genuinely surprised. His eyes sharpened, flicking briefly toward Liu before returning to Cale. “That’s a very specific question.”

“The answer may be just as specific.” Cale’s smile was barely there, but the way he looked at Brandon made one thing clear. He wanted the truth, and he wanted it now.

The room fell abruptly silent. The staff instinctively lowered their eyes and stepped back several paces, understanding this was not a conversation meant for them.

Brandon walked back to the table and placed both hands on the polished wood. His smile remained, though much thinner now. “Why are you asking?”

“Because I don’t like discovering hidden connections after a contract has been signed.”

“I don’t like people investigating my private life either.”

Cale gave a soft chuckle. “Then we’re even.”

Brandon studied him for a few seconds, then laughed under his breath. “Since you’re a valuable potential partner, and I know you’re not the kind of man who enjoys rolling in mud with people like them, I’ll give

you a little answer.”

He straightened.

“My mother is Don Falcony’s wife.”

Liu remained expressionless, but Cale caught every shade in Brandon’s tone. There was no pride in it. No respect either.

“And you?” Cale asked.

“I’m Brandon.” He shrugged lightly. “That’s all.”

“I mean your position in that family.”

“None.” Brandon’s smile turned crooked. “I eat at their table once in a while. That doesn’t make me part of their game.”

“Does Don Falcon consider you family?”

“Don Falcon considers many things his property.” Brandon picked up the coffee cup he had left behind.” I’m not one of them.”

Cale laced his fingers together on top of the table. “So you stay out of it?”

“Never been interested.” Brandon took a sip of coffee. “Their world is too noisy. Too full of cheap threats and people who think they’re powerful because they’re surrounded by bodyguards and carry the title of

Don Falcon’s trusted men.”

“You sound like you hate them.”

“I’m just realistic.” He took a few steps toward the door, then stopped again without turning around. “And I hope you’re not involved with them either.”

“Is that advice?”

“A small warning.” Brandon looked back over one shoulder, his expression serious this time. “When

Falcon becomes interested in something, he rarely stops in a clean way.”

Cale met his gaze without expression. “Neither do I.”

Brandon broke into a wide grin. “Now that is exactly the kind of answer that makes me regret liking you.” He walked out with his staff, leaving the room in a silence different from the one before.

A few seconds later, Liu spoke. “Sir, should we reconsider this partnership?”

“No.”

“Even though he’s connected to the Falcony family?”

“Precisely because of that.” Cale stood and adjusted the cuff of his shirt. “A man like Brandon hates standing under anyone’s shadow. That makes him useful.”
