Chapter 239 Because You're Here
"About the video, I know who's behind it," Kendrick spoke first.
Lately, neither of them brought up this matter.
Natalie even avoided discussing it, doing her best to divert his attention elsewhere.
"You know, it's something we have to face," Kendrick calmly said.
It could be upsetting.
Or it could lead to a sense of despondency.
But in the end, one had to recover from the bad situation and emerge from the shadows on their own.
"I'm not that fragile," Kendrick added.
Oh really?
But who was the one snuggling up to Natalie in her arms last night, behaving like a baby?
Natalie didn't expect Kendrick to bring it up voluntarily.
She dared not say much, fearing her own clumsiness. After a moment, she said, "It's probably Melvin's idea. He's become more cunning this time, using someone else's hands..."
"I know," Kendrick's deep eyes narrowed with anger, and a storm brewed within.
Having grown up in adversity, he wouldn't be easily destroyed.
In the past, he might have been despondent for a long time.
But now, someone had been there with him, taking care of him meticulously.
He wouldn't be destroyed so easily.
"I confronted Caitlin and gave her a piece of my mind." Natalie carefully chose her words and said, "And she's suing me now."
"But I didn't leave any crucial evidence, so it shouldn't be a problem."
"Even if there's a problem, I'll make sure you're okay."
Kendrick held her hand and said, "It's okay. We'll face it together."
"Okay," Natalie nodded, then suddenly said, "But this time, I... want to handle everything for you."
Kendrick's fingertips touched the palm of her hand.
"Well, you're strong, with enough resilience to face difficulties and the capability to handle any trouble. All this time, I've been protected by you."
Many times of trouble.
He resolved them all.
Whether it was initially at the Quinn family or later when she was publicly blamed due to health issues, Kendrick shielded her from all the trouble.
So this time, she wanted to take it all on for him.
Perhaps in the past, she didn't have enough power and influence.
In adversity, she could only endure.
But people inevitably grew.
As the future mistress of the Ramsey Group, she could definitely stand on her own.
"I want to protect you this time," Natalie sincerely said.
Kendrick was shocked by her words, and a smile then spread across his lips. "Alright."
...
Caitlin's injuries were more severe than imagined.
One side of her cheek was significantly swollen, and she couldn't walk without crutches.
Just as she was determined to escalate the situation, the court informed her that the case would be withdrawn.
It was requested by Ryland.
Caitlin was furious.
She immediately went to the Williamson Presidential Palace.
The guard stopped her and said, "President Williamson is in a meeting with the Cabinet members."
Caitlin raised her crutch and struck him, then burst in.
Sirens blared instantly.
She was soon intercepted again.
It wasn't until the afternoon that the meeting concluded, and Caitlin was able to see Ryland.
"Well, I'm short on time." Ryland checked his watch and said, "Meeting the King of Ellerker at seven tonight."
He looked at Caitlin and furrowed his brow in annoyance.
"Why did you request the withdrawal of the lawsuit?"
The officer in charge of the case was left speechless.
"As for this talk of causing disability, it's just too extreme," Natalie furrowed her brows, looking innocent. "Well, there's no external injury on her legs. So, it's a stretch to say I disabled her."
Natalie earnestly analyzed, "Could it be because of the recent cold weather, her age, and the fact that she's usually light on clothing, not wearing warm pants, resulting in a neuromuscular weakness?"
The officer remained silent.
Indeed, there were no external injuries, and they couldn't falsely accuse this young girl.
"Well, we're just recording a statement." The officer continued saying, "We won't wrongfully accuse anyone, so rest assured."
Natalie nodded, "Well, I trust you guys!"
"That's it," the officer concluded, "the case has been withdrawn, and there won't be any record left."
Natalie thanked them and left the police station.
She hopped into the black Maybach parked outside.
"It's been dropped," Natalie said, "I'm in the clear, scot-free!"
Kendrick lifted her chin with his hand, "I must say, you're quite something."
"Go on, praise away. I love hearing it."
"I know I've got courage and cunning!"
The car started moving slowly ahead.
Finally, it stopped at an intersection not far from the amusement park.
Natalie was wondering why they stopped here.
Kendrick then rolled down the car window.
The massive Ferris wheel was slowly turning in the night.
Suddenly, she understood something.
"I used to be afraid to come here," Kendrick said slowly. "Even though I couldn't see outside the car, passing through always triggered something in my soul."
It was truly unsettling.
Unavoidable.
"But now I'm not afraid," Kendrick turned to Natalie and held her hand. "Because you're here with me."
