Mrs. Mary Rosenberg had planned to meet with her friends that afternoon to brag about having another meeting with the elders, making them all envious of her.
But she had just gotten into her car when she saw the news trending. She was so terrified that she immediately told the driver to turn around, no longer daring to go see her friends.
It was a huge trending topic. If her friends saw it, she couldn't imagine how they would mock her.
“What trending topic?”
Quennel had just finished a meeting at the office when he got the call from his mother. He was momentarily confused by what she was saying.
“Lionel has been behaving himself lately, not causing any major trouble. How is he trending again?”
“It’s us… Oh, I can’t explain it over the phone. Just go look for yourself! It’s all over the internet. Get your company’s PR department or whoever to kill this story now! If the elders see it, we’re all finished!”
Mrs. Mary Rosenberg wasn't trying to figure out who leaked the information. She was just terrified that the contents of their meeting were public, which meant all three of them would be held accountable.
“Okay, I’ll look. Mom, don’t panic.”
Hearing the urgency in his mother's voice, Quennel felt a growing sense of unease. He hung up and immediately checked his phone.
As soon as he opened the app, he saw a dozen related topics trending. Just from the titles, he knew exactly what had happened.
He clicked on a random one and saw screenshots of Cherry's conversations with her friends being reposted everywhere. As he read the text, Quennel's face darkened.
Something was wrong. Very wrong.
This was spiraling in a direction he had not anticipated at all. This wasn't how it was supposed to go.
His plan was to have these people probe Cherry, to see if she knew about the meeting.
