"So... do all women behave oddly when they are pregnant?" Joseph asked him, swirling the wine in his glass before taking a sip.
Marissa and Sophie were back after shopping. Marissa headed to the kids’ room to tuck them into the bed while Sophie had an online meeting, so she needed Rafael’s study room urgently.
Rafael leaned back in his chair, fingers tapping the armrest, "You’re forgetting one thing, my friend," Rafael had a sad smile on his face, "I wasn’t there when she was carrying my babies," the bitter reality always used to bite him in the ass.
"Damn," Rafael muttered, his gaze fixed on the wine in his hand, "I don’t even know how she looked when she became my bride."
Every time he remembered how he and Marissa were played by Valerie and Nina, used to give a bitter taste to his tongue.
Joseph leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, "It’s not your fault, you know? Whatever happened back then wasn’t in your control, Rafael." ƒreewebɳovel.com
Rafael let out a dry chuckle, "I missed it all, Joseph. The wedding, the pregnancy, the first cries of my kids... her loneliness..." he trailed off, his jaw tightening.
Coming back to reality he shuddered and took a chug from his glass, "I don’t know about mood swings at all. But just be there with Sophie," Rafael leaned forward to pour some more wine into his glass, "Women are no doubt strong creatures. They don’t need us men if we have got this holier-than-thou attitude," he raised his gaze from the glass to find Joseph looking at him, "They need us by their side through thick and thin. I would never want a dead partner for my daughters. I need these qualities in their future partners and then I guess I need to show them by my actions what a husband is supposed to do, and how he should keep the women in his life happy. I’m sure Marissa will teach the same to Alex. For now?" Rafael shrugged, "Just show some patience to Sophie."
Suddenly he started missing his wife badly.
"Patience?" Joseph asked with a frown.
"Yeah!" Rafael nodded and placed back his glass on the table, "She’s going through a lot. Hormones, doubts, this constant need to prove she’s strong even when she doesn’t have to," he paused, rubbing his temple, "she might snap and get emotional, and that’s when your role starts."
Joseph had a mischievous grin on his face, "Someone just told me he missed his wife’s pregnancy. How do you know so much about it, man?"
Rafael cocked up a brow and clicked his tongue, "Internet, I guess. When I came to know about her pregnancy I started studying about mom’s behavior. I used to be on pins and needles thinking what she must be going through."
Shaking his head, he suddenly got up.
"Where are you going, man? Sophie is still busy," Joseph also got up with him.
"Yeah. Wait for her. Don’t worry, she’ll come to you. I need to go and see my wife," Rafael waved at him and headed to the kids’ room.
He tried to open the door as silently as possible but once he entered, four pairs of eyes darted to him.
In a separate bed, Georgie was fast asleep while the triplets were lying close to Marissa who was holding a book.
When Abi saw him entering, she hurriedly got up and raised her arms to get to him. Rafael at once closed the distance and picked her up.
With a smile, Marissa made room for Rafael in the small bed, and he didn’t hesitate to join them. Alex at once sat on his lap and Ariel got up to kiss his cheek.
"Your mom is right, my love. We will talk tomorrow," No matter how much he wanted to spoil them, the message for the kids was always clear.
Mommy and Daddy were a team.
They quietly closed their room door behind them after stepping out.
"Today Abi choked on her food," Marissa told him after hooking her arm through his and leaning her cheek on his arm. They were heading towards their bedroom.
He tilted his head to look at his wife and circled his arm around her, "Then?" he asked in concern, "What did you do?"
"Relax!" she placed her palm on his chest, "Alex reached to her before any of us."
Rafael was impressed, "Alex is an intelligent fellow," he kissed her head and squeezed her body to him, "He knows what to do in such situations."
"Umm hmm," she nodded lazily, "Every brother knows what to do in such situations. They know sisters are precious."
They had reached close to their bedroom and Rafael’s hand froze on the doorknob, "Sisters?" he asked Marissa who had raised her head, and a meaningful smile was tugging to her lips.
"Yeah, love. Sisters."
