Chapter 9 Nina Protects Her Mom
“Ms. Harrison, what proof do you actually have that I tried to seduce your fiancé?”
Before Mabel’s slap could land, Amelia caught her wrist-clean, fast, and shockingly strong.
Amelia looked delicate, almost fragile, but she carried Nina every single day. And Nina wasn’t the tiny. feather-soft baby she once was. These days she was round, solid, and gloriously heavy-so heavy that every pediatrician visit ended with a gentle, professional version of “maybe ease up on the snacks.”
So yes, Amelia had arm strength.
Mabel instantly felt that strength crushing into her wrist. Rage twisted across her face and she lifted her leg like she wanted to kick Amelia.
“Amelia! Are you insane?! How dare you hurt me! You’re finished, you hear me? I’ll destroy you!”
“Ms. Harrison,” Amelia said, voice ice-cold, “haven’t you been holding a grudge ever since you framed me?”
Everything Amelia had endured lately-online harassment, doxxing, blacklisting, rumors-it all traced back to one person. Mabel.
Amelia couldn’t fight the PR machine behind her. But a slap to the face? That she could stop.
The moment things started looking like a losing fight for Mabel, Zoe stepped in, brows drawn tight as she hurried over.
“Ms. Parker, let go of her. Mabel’s just upset. She and Bob are about to get engaged, and you’ve been acting suspicious with him. Anyone would be angry.”
“When exactly did you see me act suspicious with Bob?” Amelia snapped back, still holding Mabel’s wrist like a steel clamp.
Zoe flinched.
Because she had seen the viral video-the one that clearly showed Bob harassing Amelia—but Mabel was her friend, so she’d chosen her side long before logic entered the room.
“If you weren’t trying something,” Zoe shot back, “why is Bob chasing after you nonstop?”
Amelia suddenly laughed-a sharp, humorless sound.
“Zoe, by your logic… does that mean you’ve been seducing Daniel all this time?”
“Amelia, that’s enough! You’re being cruel! Way too cruel!” Zoe’s face flushed with embarrassment and fury. She tried tugging Amelia’s hand off Mabel, desperate to regain control.
By then, a crowd had already formed.
Just then-
Nina arrived, as if summoned by pure mother-daughter instinct. She saw Amelia and lit up instantly.
“Un-coo Dan’el! Mommy!!”
Her little arms shot out toward Amelia.
Seeing the shift, Daniel grabbed Nina and rushed over.
“Mr. Graham, you’re here- ”
“Mr. Graham, we’re so sorry, this was all our fault, Ms. Quinn just-”
People swarmed him with greetings and excuses, but Daniel ignored every single one of them. He pushed
forward until he reached Amelia,
Mabel and Zoe had already been separated, both clutching their wrists with pained expressions.
Zoe bit her lip, flustered.
Daniel hadn’t called her in two days. Her manager had practically had a meltdown before the event:
“Zoe, what if he’s done with you? He’s never ignored you this long. Did you snap at him again? How many, times have I told you-Daniel’s a golden heir! Money, power, a gorgeous face-there are countless people waiting for a chance with him. He spoils you, he gives you everything! Even if you don’t like him that much, could you stop rolling your eyes at him?”
Those words had only made Zoe more upset.
Not at herself-never herself.
At Daniel.
