Nina could eat by herself, but whenever she did, the meal usually turned into a disaster.

Her tiny hands, her face, and her clothes were all covered in grease by the time she finished.

Benjamin’s obsession with cleanliness had cased a little because of Nina, but he definitely hadn’t gotten over

So, to keep Nina clean, he took the initiative to feed her.

“Daddy, no veggie.”

Nina didn’t like green vegetables at all.

Out of all veggies, she only liked red carrots and a little bit of yellow mashed potatoes.

But she ate any kind of meat-never turned it down.

Benjamin fed her awkwardly, but even with his stiff movements, the result wasn’t bad.

Every spoonful managed to land in Nina’s mouth.

Watching them eat together, Amelia started eating her own lunch as well.

For that brief moment, the three of them looked surprisingly warm and peaceful.

After the meal, Amelia brought up leaving again. “Nina needs her nap. I should take her home.”

Benjamin lifted his chin slightly and tilted his head toward the lounge.

He said, “If you two need a nap, you can use the restroom.”

Amelia almost suspected Benjamin was deliberately keeping her from leaving.

But her doubt lasted only a second because she couldn’t think of any reason he’d want her to stay.

After a moment of thought, she concluded it wasn’t her he wanted to keep-it was Nina. Nina was his daughter.

No matter how cold, distant, or robotic Benjamin seemed, he still had feelings for his child.

To fulfill that unspoken desire to spend more time with Nina, Amelia kindly decided to stay.

She offered, “Benjamin, she needs a little playtime before her nap. Do you want to play with her too?”

Benjamin replied, “You play with her.”

He knew he wasn’t good at “playtime.”

He simply sat nearby, quietly watching Amelia and Nina play with the toys,

As Amelia played with Nina, a gentle smile never left her eyes. When she smiled, she looked just like Nina—

clean, soft, warm.

Under Benjamin’s constant gaze, it became impossible for Amelia to act like nothing was happening.

She eventually turned around, but by the time she looked back, Benjamin’s attention had already shifted to

Nina.

Nina was tearing apart a toy with great enthusiasm.

“Mommy! Broke!”

Amelia said, “Yes, it broke. Then Nina should put it back together. Mommy wants to see if you can do it.”

Her encouraging tone made Nina nod hard. “Nina can!”

She grabbed the toy parts with her chubby hands and began assembling.

But it only took a short while before she lost patience.

She tossed the pieces onto the floor and angrily picked up another toy instead.

Amelia said, “Nina, the other one isn’t done yet.”

Nina ignored her completely, sliding her new toy car across the floor.

Amelia’s brows tightened. She repeated herself, but Nina pretended she didn’t hear.

Benjamin watched the scene. After a pause, he stood up, walked over, sat down on the floor, and started assembling the toy Nina had thrown.

Seeing him take the abandoned toy, Amelia lowered her voice and muttered to him, frustrated, “Nina’s attention span is so bad. She only has patience when she’s misbehaving.

“I’m worried that when she goes to kindergarten or elementary school, she won’t even be able to sit still.”

Benjamin didn’t know how to respond at first.

He thought for a moment before saying, “Attention span can be trained. Starting now isn’t too late.”

Amelia hesitated and said, “It really can be trained?”

“Of course,” Benjamin replied.
