Earlier, Nina had caught wind of her mom saying she’d go shopping for her.

Unconvinced that Amelia had stepped out, Benjamin scooped up Nina by her plump little bottom and went inside to have a look.

And sure enough, Amelia was nowhere to be seen, and William was missing, too.

With the grown-ups who knew how to calm the little one gone, Benjamin hesitated for a moment and then decided to take matters into his own hands.

“Feeling hungry?” he asked.

“Yeah!”

Even though she’d polished off a whole bottle of milk not long ago, Nina was still raring to go for a meal.

But she wasn’t keen on eating at home.

She wanted to eat out.

Benjamin didn’t say no to any of her demands.

They hopped into the car and set off. Benjamin was planning to take her to a fancy restaurant, but before they could reach it, Nina’s eyes landed on a bustling street full of food stalls.

The place was alive with the smell of delicious food and the chatter of people. Nina pressed her chubby little face against the car window, her eyes wide with excitement.

“Out… Me go out!”

As she said that, she lunged for the car door. Fortunately, it was locked, or she would’ve tumbled out.

Benjamin nearly had a heart attack at her sudden move.

“Hey, Nina, hold still,” he said, quickly grabbing his phone and snapping a pic of Nina’s little hand still on

the door handle.

After that, he added Amelia on WhatsApp from the “Nina Update Group”. Once she accepted, he shot the photo over.

Amelia texted back immediately, “My God!!!”

Then came another message, “Smack her hand!”

Amelia was absolutely furious. She’d been trying to break Nina’s dangerous habit of pulling the car door while the car was moving for ages, but it just wouldn’t stick.

All her previous awkwardness and avoidance around Benjamin flew out the window.

She immediately hit him up with a video call.

The call connected in an instant.

The first thing Amelia saw was Benjamin’s handsome face, a bit too close to the camera.

Even from this up-close view, his good looks took her breath away for a split second.

But she snapped back to reality quickly.

“Can you point the phone at Nina?” she asked.

Benjamin wordlessly passed the phone to Nina.

Nina was holding onto the car’s armrest with one hand and took the phone with the other, looking all confused.

She had no clue her mom was on the other end.

When she lowered her head and tried to tap the phone with her chubby fingers, she saw her mom’s face on the screen.

Shocked, she dropped the phone like it was a hot potato and then, still looking terrified, patted her own

chest.

“Scary… See Mommy!” she stammered.

Silently, Benjamin retrieved the phone and once more held it so Amelia’s face was visible to Nina.

Nina just stared blankly for a moment and then squeezed her eyes shut tight. “Nina no look!”

Amelia, clearly annoyed, spoke up, “I’ve already seen you!”

Trying to be firm, Amelia asked, “Nina, remember what Mommy said about not pulling the car door?”

Nina pouted, keeping her eyes firmly shut, but still managed to answer cutely, “Yeah…”

Amelia took a steadying breath. “Pulling the car door is super dangerous. If you fall out, it’ll hurt really bad. Did Mommy tell you that, too?”

Nina sniffled and nodded, looking utterly forlorn.

Seeing that the little one seemed to remember, Amelia, with a calm yet in-charge tone, asked, “You know it’s dangerous, so why’d you do it? Tell Mommy.”

Nina was about to burst into tears.

She rubbed her eyes, and her tiny voice was full of a pitiful tone.

In the most timid way, she mumbled, “Nina wanna open.”

Benjamin, listening in, was left speechless. Unbelievable.
