Chapter 448 The Future Head Of This Vast Family
These events had occurred too long ago. Or perhaps Philip didn’t want them mentioned. Either way, this piece of the past, much like Lester’s own childhood memories, had faded into obscurity.
When Olivier revealed these old stories, Lester simply acknowledged with a faint hum.
Olivier’s willingness to reveal these old stories to Lester wasn’t due to any deep bond between them.
It was because Olivier believed Lester would replace Philip. He saw Lester as the future head of this vast family.
So, Olivier had been extending favors everywhere, and Lester had accepted them all.
Their exchange was brief. The Powell Estate had too many eyes and ears, and Olivier was cautious.
If Philip noticed he was too close to Lester, Olivier knew he’d be the next one to die there.
Soon, Nina was brought to the dining room.
She sat in a chair, waiting for Lester to feed her.
“Watch car?” Nina asked.
Nina loved watching TV and playing with toys while eating.
There were no toys here, so she set her sights on Lester’s phone. She wanted him to put on a cartoon for her.
Lester had fed her once before, so he was mentally prepared this time.
To get it over with quickly, he didn’t try to establish any proper eating habits now. He opened his phone and played a cartoon for Nina.
Then, while Nina watched, he started feeding her, spoonful after spoonful. Each heaping spoonful completely filled Nina’s little mouth.
Nina didn’t complain about her full mouth. She was used to eating this way; all the grown-ups who fed her did it like this.
After a few big mouthfuls, Nina stopped chewing much. She was mesmerized by the cartoon.
“Buy car!” she demanded.
Even though Nina had plenty of toy cars, she still wanted the one on the screen. She pointed at the animated car, asking for the same one.
“Okay,” Lester replied, reminding her, “Swallow your food first, then we can buy it.”
Nina had been chewing that mouthful for too long, and now it was hard to swallow.
Just as she was trying to force it down, Lester reached his hand out.
“Spit it out,” he instructed.
