Amelia was sitting against the pillow beside her. She had only replied to a few messages when she suddenly realized Nina was heading out.
She frowned and called after her, “Nina, what are you doing?”
Without turning around, Nina answered, “Find Daddy.”
Amelia said patiently, “Daddy went home to get clothes. Where are you going to find him? Come back and play with your toys.”
Amelia tried to coax Nina into staying on the bed with her toys until Benjamin returned, but Nina refused to listen.
She shook her little head stubbornly and kept walking. “Find Nelson’s Daddy.”
Amelia corrected her gently, “You shouldn’t call him Daddy.”
Amelia saw that Nelson had already settled into his small wheelchair. Both children were intent on going to Trevor, and she couldn’t stop them. In the end, she could only escort the two little ones to the door.
There were staff members outside, so Amelia asked one of them to accompany the children to find Trevor.
She didn’t go herself. It was already quite late, and it wouldn’t be appropriate for her to go looking for Trevor now.
It would be too inconvenient. Amelia stayed behind to avoid any awkwardness, leaving only the two children to go.
When Nina stepped out, she was wearing a pair of Nelson’s small slippers.
She kicked them off after just a few steps.
By the time they reached Trevor’s bedroom door, Nina was holding one slipper and banging it against the door.
“Daddy! Open door?”
Nina knew she shouldn’t call him “Daddy,” but she’d said it so much when talking to Nelson.
Now the word “Daddy” had slipped out so naturally that she didn’t even notice.
Her banging was loud, but Trevor didn’t open the door.
He showed no intention of answering at all.
Nina switched from banging with the slipper to pounding with her chubby little fist.
She kept knocking and hitting, working herself into a frenzy!
The door stayed firmly shut.
Nelson’s eyes dimmed. He spoke softly, “Nina, let’s go. Daddy doesn’t want to open it.”

A tense standoff formed between the inside and outside of the door. Trevor had heard the noise long ago
His eyes were bloodshot as he stood just inside, voice horse and low. “Stay away from me.”
He was driving them off.
Nelson, already accustomed to rejection, was prepared turn and leave.
But Nina frowned deeply. In an instant, she sensed something was wrong.
She pressed her plump little cheek against the door.
“Open door?”
Her mouth was asking politely, but her tiptoes were already stretching to reach the handle.
Trevor refused to open it. He pressed a hand to his head fighting the explosive pain, forcing down the ragged breathing in his throat. His tone grew even more impatient.
“I said-leave!”
His voice was sharp enough to be called harsh.
Yet Nina wasn’t frightened at all.
She still demanded that Trevor open the door.
Her round, chubby face was set in determination. She didn’t look like she just wanted to play.
She looked very serious.
Trevor didn’t want to open the door, but his terrible headache and blurry hallucinations were making him lose his mind.
After several long minutes, the door suddenly flew open
It was Trevor-his rationality finally shattered-who had opened it.
The moment Nelson saw his father’s state, his eyes widened sharply.
He didn’t even bother with the crutch. He stood up on s injured leg.
“Nina, come here!”
Nelson knew exactly how terrifying his father became when he lost control.
He was afraid Nina would get hurt. Instinctively, he tried to stand and pull her behind him-but he was still too slow.
Trevor’s gaze had already locked onto Nina.
