Miracle Cutie (Amelia and Benjamin) novel Chapter 21

Chapter 21 Morning Cuddles

“Nina’s face feels so warm,” William remarked, taking the sleeping child from Daniel’s arms and keeping his voice low so as not to disturb her.

Daniel responded, “I was worried she might catch a chill while sleeping, so I turned up the heat in the car.”

Though still new to parenting, Daniel was gradually getting the hang of it.

But hearing this, William’s brow didn’t relax. “Next time, don’t set the temperature so high. If she sweats and then goes into an air-conditioned room, she might get sick.”

“Alright, I understand,” Daniel replied, nodding.

After this brief exchange, William carefully carried Nina into Benjamin’s room to let her rest. Secretly, he hoped that letting father and daughter spend time together would bring them closer.

Over the years, Benjamin had lived mostly alone, with no one by his side. William didn’t think he had been too harsh with his son, but still… Benjamin seemed to live as if he had no emotions at all. It troubled him deeply.

He whispered to Nina, even though she was asleep, “Nina, when your father wakes up and finds you here… maybe he won’t be so cold anymore. You know, Nina… anyone who sees you can’t help but love you.”

Even William, as her grandfather, found his heart swelling with love he couldn’t quite put into words.

The banquet he had originally planned for Nina now felt too small, too plain. He had to do something better. Something grander. He would announce to everyone that the Graham family had welcomed a precious little treasure!

William stayed with Nina for a while, adjusting the light quilt around her before letting her continue sleeping next to Benjamin. Time slipped by unnoticed.

Outside, the sun had already dipped low in the sky.

Nina had been asleep since around one o’clock, and didn’t wake up until four. In her drowsy state, she thought it was her absolute favorite person, Mommy, lying beside her.

So, when she opened her eyes and saw “Mommy” beside her, she instinctively wrapped her chubby little arms around her and pressed her lips to “Mommy’s” cheek before her eyes even fully opened. She clung to the soft, warm face and started showering it with slobbery kisses.

“Mommy, Nina awake!” she chirped, her little voice full of sweetness as she plastered kisses all over “Mommy’s face.

After a few moments, she finally pulled away and looked up. But instead of seeing her mother’s familiar features, she came face-to-face with Benjamin’s.

Her wide eyes blinked in confusion.

The man she had just kissed wasn’t Mommy-it was Daddy!

“I want Mommy!” she whined, pouting as she sat up, her face scrunched up in distress.

Then, suddenly, the memory of Nelson being hit by his father hit her, and she looked at her own dad with growing unease. He didn’t seem very approachable at all!

“You… you hit Nina?” she asked gingerly, her little voice filled with caution, wondering if he was going to be like Nelson’s dad.

Benjamin didn’t answer, still unconscious.
