Benjamin glanced at her and said calmly, “You tried to crash into me and even hit me. No charm for you.”

Nina’s round eyes went even rounder.

She shouted in her milky voice, “No hit! Daddy, no hit!”

She refused to admit it.

To sweet-talk him, Nina puckered up and planted kisses all over Benjamin’s cheek.

“Daddy, Nina love you!”

She kissed and cooed and kept at it for ages.

Benjamin knew exactly how long her patience lasted.

Right before the meltdown, he pulled another little brocade pouch from his pocket and handed it over.

“Don’t open it,” he added casually.

Amelia heard the instruction and almost laughed-he didn’t need to bother saying that. Nina was already tearing into it.

Benjamin and Amelia had come to take Nina home.

It was getting late; dinner would be soon.

Benjamin called William, and they all prepared to leave together.

On the ride back, William held back from asking about the fortune teller.

Private matters were better discussed at home.

Nina sat in the back as usual. The second the car started moving, she kicked off her little shoes.

Despite Amelia’s protests, she peeled off her socks too and flung both shoes and socks away.

Nina wiggled her bare, chubby feet and giggled.

Then she planted those feet on Benjamin’s leg and kicked playfully.

She kept kicking and announced proudly, “Daddy, I so bad.”

Amelia laughed, “Oh, you know you’re bad? Bad Nina oly bullies Daddy.”

Bad Nina was still being bad. Benjamin reached over and caught both her feet in one hand, stopping the

attack.

At first, Nina just laughed and played tug-of-war, trying to pull free.

But the longer she struggled, the less she smiled.

“Daddy… no touch my feet-feet.”

Benjamin closed his eyes, leaned back, and pretended not to hear.

Nina tugged harder-still stuck.

Her face started crumpling. Amelia didn’t rescue her.

She said, “Who told you to be Bad Nina first? Say sorry to Daddy and ask him to forgive you. Then he’ll let go.”

Nina sniffled, still refusing to apologize.

She had been more stubborn these days, testing boundaries every now and then.

But stubborn or not, she couldn’t win against her mother. In the end, she pouted and gave Benjamin a soft apology, finally freeing her chubby foot.

Amelia immediately slipped the socks back on.

“There. Socks protect your feet so Daddy can’t grab them anymore.”

The three of them played and teased in the back while William watched from the front row, heart warm and full.

Back home, Nina dashed off to play the moment her feet hit the ground.

William stopped Benjamin and asked carefully about the fortune teller.

While they talked, Nina ran to the yard and started digging mud with her toy excavator.

She scooped dirt, dumped it into her big truck.

She had every construction vehicle imaginable!

The nannies saw her happily playing alone and quietly stood guard without interrupting.

Amelia had told them not to disturb Nina when she was playing alone, so she could develop better focus.

Nina dug mud for over half an hour. Her little hands and cheeks were covered in dirt. Her dress was stained

After digging for a long time, Nina plucked a leaf and started muttering about making food.

She’d seen older girls play house and “cook” like this before-just like that.

Nina wanted to join them that day, but they didn’t let her.

“Daddy eat.”

She kept mumbling as her little hands worked hard on her imaginary meal.

While she cooked, William and Benjamin finished their alk.

They set the date for her party, one week from now.
