Chapter 148 The Price
Jimmy was still fuming as he dragged Peter through the corridor looking for Benjamin.
Benjamin had arrived a few minutes earlier. By now, he was already holding Nina in his arms.

There were still tiny grains of sand stuck under Nina’s lower eyelids and on her eyeballs. The saline wash hadn’t worked-they needed tweezers to pick them out.
But Nina refused to cooperate. She was thrashing and screaming.
And she had a terrible temper. After crying this long without anyone taking her home, she started dry- heaving between sobs.
Benjamin had no choice but to scoop her up and rock her first.
“Nina, we’re going home very soon. There’s still sand in your eyes. Sand hurts, remember?
“Once we get the sand out, it won’t hurt anymore.
“Nina is the bravest, best girl in the world. As soon as were done-”
Before Benjamin could finish, Nina threw up with a wail
Her little face turned green.
Benjamin’s face twisted with worry.
Not because he minded that she’d vomited all over him he couldn’t care less about that. He was panicking because she was suffering.
He said in a hurry, “Nina, stop crying. Finish throwing up first, then cry, okay?”
She wanted to keep crying, but another wave came.
Benjamin was terrified she’d choke.
William watched her cry until she threw up, and tears streamed down his own face.
His poor baby was absolutely miserable!
While William and Benjamin were both frantic with heartache, Jimmy finally spotted them and walked over with Peter in tow.
Jimmy said, “Benjamin-it really is you. I thought I was seeing things.”
From a distance, Jimmy had already seen Benjamin craling a tiny kid who was throwing up.
He’d seen Benjamin let the kid puke right on his hand without moving away even an inch.
That was so not the Benjamin he knew!
Benjamin had a serious cleanliness obsession!
Jimmy was still talking, but Benjamin ignored him completely.

His sharp gaze landed on Peter behind Jimmy, cold enough to freeze blood. Peter felt a chill crawl up his spine.
“You’re Peter?” William said coldly.
“Y-yes, that’s me.” Peter’s voice shook when he answered
He was absolutely terrified of William.
William didn’t waste words. “I hear your little brother lives with you. You’re the one raising him.
“Your wonderfully raised brother stole my granddaughter’s toy at the ranch today and threw sand in her eyes!
“How do you propose we fix this?”
Both Peter and Jimmy felt their hearts skip a beat.
Peter thought he might not be able to handle it if his brother caused this much trouble!
Jimmy, hearing “the ranch,” realized he also bore some responsibility.
His already pale face turned even whiter.
“Benjamin…” Jimmy looked at the man, still wiping vomit off Nina, his voice tiny and trembling with guilt. “I’m sorry. I’m the one who let Alan play at the ranch whenever he wanted. I really didn’t know he’d bully anyone. I was wrong.”
Jimmy apologized like a kid waiting for the belt.
He was scared Benjamin would hit him.
Jack saw real fear on Jimmy’s face. Without a word, he stepped past him and offered Benjamin tissues and a bottle of water.
“Is the exam finished? What did the doctor say?” he aske.
Benjamin didn’t take anything.
His voice was ice. “Still sand on the eyeball. They have to keep going.”
Jack’s heart sank when he heard that. He glanced at Nin-who was still sobbing about going home to her mommy after throwing up-and knew this wouldn’t end well.
The more Nina suffered, the worse Benjamin’s rage would be. And the harder it would be to fix.
Jimmy heard it too and nearly fainted from fright.
He kept apologizing, grabbed water himself, and tried to hand it over.
He even turned to Nina.
