And the students participating in the competition were all firmly under Bianca's thumb because of the funding, leaving them no choice but to follow her lead.
This only further fueled Bianca's rampant arrogance.
Mr. Ashwell's eyes darkened.
Having been a professor for years and navigating the academic circles long enough to become the homeroom teacher for Marington's Vanguard Honors Program, he saw the situation with crystal clarity.
Serena's ability to conquer those notoriously difficult professors was absolutely not due to luck, nor was it some scripted performance orchestrated with the dean, as the rumors suggested.
Professor Warren and Professor Lewis were famous for being rigid, old-school scholars.
Why on earth would they collude with the dean to prop up a "fraud"?
Furthermore, the dean was renowned for refusing to bow to authority. Even when the mayor of Vaelion City tried to force his son into Marington, the dean practically kicked him out the door.
Why would he suddenly abandon his principles to let a supposed "loser" into Marington?
Let alone into Vanguard Honors Program?
Mr. Ashwell knocked on the desk, motioning for everyone to quiet down.
Then, he walked over to Serena's desk and tapped the surface.
Serena lazily lifted her eyelids, a hint of sleepiness lingering in her cold, clear eyes.
"Serena, as a member of Vanguard, you must participate in the Global Elite University Challenge. No one from this program is allowed to sit out," Mr. Ashwell said, his heart giving a slight jolt as he met the girl's gaze.
It only hardened his resolve to get her into the competition.
Marington College could not afford to lose this time.
With this student on the roster, their chances of taking the championship would skyrocket!
Serena let out a lazy yawn. "They've already formed their teams. Whether I join or not won't make much of a difference."
"How could it not make a difference?" Mr. Ashwell said with absolute certainty. "Serena, I firmly believe the dean had a specific purpose in specially recruiting you and placing you in Vanguard. Since you are part of this class... you should represent Marington in the arena."
"As for teammates..."
Mr. Ashwell narrowed his eyes, sweeping his gaze across the students in the room.
