Of course, dreams were beautiful.
But reality was cruel.
Douglas had planned to monopolize his niece for the evening, bond over dinner, and maybe pick her brain about how she managed to become the leader of the Ghost Alliance at such a young age.
He wanted to know just how powerful she really was.
And perhaps swap a few tips on ruling the underground.
But he forgot one crucial detail.
Without Nicholas clinging to her, there was another obstacle...
His older brother!
Silas had recently become just as clingy with Serena.
The moment he heard she was awake, he shamelessly tried to tag along.
Douglas flatly refused. "We can't leave the sanatorium completely unattended. Serena already agreed to have dinner with me. So, Silas, you should stay here and look after Mom and Dad!"
Was he joking?!
He and Serena were cut from the same cloth!
If he let his stiff, corporate older brother come along, how was he supposed to have any fun underground talk with his niece?
Absolutely not!
Silas's expression remained deadpan. "Didn't you claim Serena has already accepted you as her uncle? Then it's high time I got the chance to build a relationship with her too."
"That's exactly why! She only accepts me. She'd lose her appetite if she had to look at you!" Douglas didn't back down an inch.
Silas shoved him slightly. "Douglas, you need to understand that a harmonious family brings prosperity. You stay and watch our parents. Let me go, for the sake of our family's peace, and bond with Serena."
Douglas immediately blocked him. "Silas, you already know you're not her favorite, yet you keep forcing yourself on her? Besides, I already made the plans. You stay and watch our parents."
"You..."
"You..."
Neither brother was willing to yield.
Holden and Kiera watched their two grown sons looking like they were about to throw punches over a dinner date with their granddaughter.
They couldn't help but laugh.
