Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle' novel Chapter 79

Chapter 79: Mutual Backstabbing

Vivian clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms.

She struggled to steady her trembling voice. "Brother Logan... it’s not what you think. I—I acted impulsively. I assumed Lily wouldn’t do anything too excessive, so I asked Miss Clark to apologize."

"I should have investigated the matter before speaking. I’m sorry. I’ll keep quiet from now on."

Vivian bit her lip, stepping aside with an air of grievance, her eyes red as though the world had wronged her.

Selina observed her melodramatic act, her eyes flickering with mischief.

Playing the victim? Two can play at that game.

Feigning dejection, Selina sighed, "Logan, don’t blame Miss Cooper. She thought I was just your kept mistress, so it’s only natural she looked down on me. After all, the eldest daughter of the Cooper Family wouldn’t want to associate with a mistress."

Lily latched onto this lifeline like a drowning person clutching at straws. She immediately raised her voice. "Yes... yes! Mr. Reid, it’s my fault, but... but I only acted this way to protect your reputation. Someone like her—a mistress—obviously isn’t good enough..."

"But," Selina interrupted, her eyes widening innocently, leaving Lily no chance to continue, "aren’t we married? Miss Perry clearly knows this—why didn’t she tell her friend? Instead, she let Miss Cooper misunderstand. Oh, and earlier, Miss Cooper was demanding I kneel. Logan, what should I do about that?"

The entire hallway plunged into a stunned silence.

Vivian’s entire body trembled.

Impossible... impossible...

She was certain Logan and Selina’s marriage was a secret. He would never publicly acknowledge Selina’s identity.

As long as Logan didn’t admit it, she could still spin the situation!

But her hopes were dashed the very next second.

Logan took Selina’s hand without hesitation and let out a derisive laugh.

"Cooper’s CEO has been trying to curry favor with me lately. If he finds out his daughter offended Mrs. Reid, do you think he’ll want to jump off this building?"

Mrs. Reid... Mrs. Reid...

The title echoed endlessly in Lily’s mind. The words she’d been about to say got stuck in her throat, leaving her stunned and wide-eyed in disbelief.

Selina really was Mrs. Reid!

But Vivian had insisted she was just a mistress. What was going on? It was over—she was finished...

Realizing the gravity of her mistake, Lily abandoned all pretense and dignity. She fell to her knees in front of Selina, tears and snot streaming down her face.

"I was wrong! Mrs. Reid, I was wrong! I didn’t know your identity—I was blind! It was Vivian... Vivian told me Mr. Reid was your sugar daddy. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have dared to offend you, even with a hundred lives!"

Vivian’s face turned deathly pale, her head buzzing in shock.

This idiot!

Selina tilted her head as though in sudden realization. "Oh... so it was Miss Perry spreading lies behind my back. Now I’m curious—Miss Perry, you clearly know I’m married to Logan. Why would you lie?"

"Were you deliberately setting up Miss Cooper to offend Logan? Or are you unwilling to acknowledge my identity and trying to ruin my reputation?"

Vivian felt faint.

Either answer would destroy her.

Her fingers trembled as she struggled to form a response, but no words came.

Logan spoke casually, his tone laced with menace. "If Miss Perry can’t answer, I’ll ask the Perry Family directly. Is this how their adopted daughters are trained to behave?" ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

Panic overtook Vivian.

Her throat tightened as she whipped her head toward Lily, who was still kneeling.

Back in the private room.

Selina had barely taken two bites of food when Logan firmly grabbed her hand. She sucked in a sharp breath. "Hiss—"

"It still hurts?"

Logan applied ointment to the burn on her hand with practiced ease, his tone indifferent. "How foolish are you? Lily was clearly targeting you, and you just stood there and let her pour coffee on you?"

Selina thought to herself that it was just a minor injury. She muttered, "Didn’t I pour it back on her?"

Logan let out a low chuckle, his eyes glinting. "Mrs. Reid, I call you foolish, and you don’t even argue. You let someone push you around, and it didn’t occur to you to call me for help?"

At the mention of calling him, Selina stiffened.

"...You didn’t bring your phone?" Logan asked, narrowing his eyes knowingly.

Selina swallowed hard.

Her phone had been tracked, so she’d disassembled it and discarded the pieces around the plaza. How could she have called Logan?

But she couldn’t tell him the truth. "I... lost it by accident. I couldn’t find it."

Logan’s lips curved faintly.

Ah, the little liar is at it again.

Meeting his gaze, Selina’s pupils contracted. She knew this lie was flimsy at best. If Logan didn’t believe her...

"If you lose your phone again and can’t contact me, feel free to use my name to push back," Logan interrupted her spiraling thoughts. "If I hadn’t come looking for you today, were you really planning to apologize to them?"

Selina’s heart skipped a beat.

Did he... not suspect her?
