Second, because Luke had once mentioned in passing that the owner of this milk tea shop was a genius who had keenly sensed a business opportunity. Back in college, he used his scholarship as his first pot of gold to invest in the shop, which grew bigger and bigger over time.
It wasn’t just the scholarship—he had also borrowed some money from classmates. Someone who needed to borrow money from friends to start a business probably didn’t come from a wealthy family; otherwise, the startup capital would have come from family funds, not a scholarship.
So how could it possibly be the Nelson Family? Even if the Nelsons had fallen on hard times in recent years, investing in—or even outright acquiring—a milk tea shop would have been easy for them.
To her surprise, Logan explained, "It has nothing to do with the Nelson Family. The investment money was earned by Hunter when he was in college. The Nelsons had no idea."
With that, Selina understood.
She sighed. "I don’t get what the Nelson Family is thinking. A foster son with such talent, who’s still filial to his adoptive parents, is one in a million. If they hate him so much, why not just drive him out instead of keeping him around, as if they’re scheming something?"
Logan neither confirmed nor denied it.
They couldn’t buy the milk tea shop, but Selina didn’t have to wait long before the store manager hurried out and personally made her a cup. "Mr. Reid, Mr. Nelson asked me to send his regards to you both."
Logan nodded as he took it, offering no further comment. "The rain’s getting heavier. Let’s head back to the car."
Selina nodded.
Once inside, she pushed a straw through the paper lid and took a sip. "Wow, this really is good. Since the Nelson Family doesn’t know, could this shop be Hunter’s fallback plan for when he leaves them?"
Logan let out a low chuckle.
A fallback plan?
The man shook his head. "No."
"But with the Nelsons being the way they are, I can’t imagine Hunter staying there forever. Without a fallback..."
"This shop was just him testing the waters. His real fallback goes far beyond this, and when the Nelson Family finds out, they’ll be shocked."
Selina thought for a while, then it clicked.
Hunter’s true fallback was something that would shock—and even frighten—the Nelson Family, but for now, they had no idea. They probably thought they had him completely under their control.
Just then, Kevin called. "Everything’s set up just like you wanted. Sit back and enjoy the show."
Selina arched a brow, clearly pleased.
...
The next morning at nine, Grandma Morris arrived outside the Turner Jewelry Group’s studio with Angela, waiting for Kevin.
The day before, Turner Group had called to request that Selina bring the design drafts and meet with Kevin. But when the call came, a sly idea flashed through Grandma Morris’s mind. Not only did she neglect to inform Selina, she brought Angela instead.
The two looked identical—how could the Turner family possibly tell them apart?
Grandma Morris instructed, "Angela, when you meet Kevin, make sure you speak well. Even though Turner didn’t name you as the lead on this project, you’re still the real daughter of the Morris Family. Selina is always siding with outsiders—I don’t trust her."
"This kind of important collaboration, leaving it to Selina? I can’t rest easy. If you can make friends with Young Master Turner, that would be even better."
Angela put on a sweet, obedient expression. "Don’t worry, I’ll do my best to win benefits for the Morris Family. I’m just afraid my sister will find out..."
