Finn was stuck—speaking up was risky, but staying quiet was just as bad. He’d been trying to get on Logan’s good side, to edge Hunter out and take his place as Logan’s friend. But now, the topic he’d brought up was brushed aside with barely a glance, and his throat tightened with frustration.
Then Riley spoke up with a smile. "Cousin, you’re underestimating Logan. Owen’s just an adopted son. Sure, he grew up in the Reid Family, got their education, and the whole clan sees him as the heir—but compared to Logan? He’s nothing."
Finn’s eyes lit up. "Exactly, just an adopted son! If you ask me, that kid needs to be taught a lesson. All adopted sons are the same—they fight the real kids for power without checking if they’re even cut out for it."
Logan’s gaze darkened.
A slow, almost amused smile tugged at his lips. "Oh? Is that what the Nelson Family thinks?"
Only then did Finn realize he’d said his real thoughts out loud. His whole body went stiff, and he scrambled to cover it up—when Jack stepped forward.
"Mr. Nelson, Miss Nelson, sir has another meeting to get to."
The dismissal couldn’t have been clearer. Riley clenched her jaw, grabbed Finn’s arm, and forced a polite smile. "We were just passing by. Since that’s the case, we won’t take up your time."
"Logan... my cousin only meant to stand up for you. Don’t take it the wrong way."
Finn jumped in. "Right, right, I wasn’t implying anything about Hunter—"
Riley yanked him toward the door before he could say more.
Logan set his cup down with a soft clink. "I have to wonder... is the Nelson Family genuinely stupid, or just pretending?"
Jack paused before answering truthfully. "Sir, from what I’ve seen... genuinely stupid."
Logan gave a cold laugh. Comparing Owen to Hunter, trying to poison him against Hunter in such a childish way—how did they come up with something so idiotic?
"Did Jaxon find anything on Hunter and Selina?" Logan asked suddenly.
Jack shook his head. "Nothing yet."
Logan’s eyes narrowed.
Some things felt far too coincidental. He was certain Selina wasn’t Joe’s daughter—so who was her father? Selina had once said she played at CY Club as a child, and later, Hunter inherited CY Club. The Nelsons were convinced that SL Group’s chairman was Hunter, that it was his birth father’s legacy to him.
But in truth, SL Group had nothing to do with Hunter. It had always belonged to Selina.
The coincidence was too much to ignore.
One thought surged into his mind—if both Hunter and Selina had unknown fathers, and both inherited overlapping assets... could they share the same father?
Hunter wanted to repay the Nelsons, but Logan saw it clearly: the couple’s so-called "care" for Hunter was rooted in the fortune his birth parents had left him.
And Selina... she, too, held a fortune that could rival nations.
Was it really just chance?
"Sir, it’s raining," Jack said suddenly. "The Turner Group meeting just wrapped up as well."
Logan pushed his thoughts aside and stood. "I’ll go pick her up."
...
Outside the café, Riley frowned. "Cousin, why did you say all that? Now’s not the time to fall out with my brother."
Most of the Nelson assets were still in Hunter’s hands—and they hadn’t yet gotten his father’s inheritance.
Finn scoffed. "So what if I said it? Hunter wouldn’t dare talk back."
