Selina let out a cold laugh.
"Let’s wait and see."
...
For the next two days, Selina seemed to have free access in and out of Jacob’s villa, but in reality, no matter where she went, a few bodyguards shadowed her steps, and her phone was loaded with monitoring software.
Outside the Reid Group building, Selina lingered for a moment. She immediately noticed the hurried faces of people passing by and, not far away, the anxious expression of the head secretary. Her brows furrowed slightly.
What was going on?
In just a few days, the head secretary had lost her usual calm composure and was now fiercely arguing with someone.
"What a joke! Reid Group is Mr. Reid’s blood and sweat. Without him, there would be no Reid Group today. He built this company from the ground up. Now you’re demanding he step down—who are you trying to push into power?!"
And standing opposite her was none other than the man rumored to have been by Logan’s side for over ten years—Assistant Stone.
Everyone in Reid Group said Stone had been demoted because he offended Mrs. Reid.
So Stone was completely unrestrained, his tone cutting, even mocking. "Tessa, I told you before you have terrible judgment. You can’t even latch on to the right thigh. Between Selina and Miss Nelson, you picked Selina. Between Young Master Owen and Logan, you actually chose Logan. Ha!"
Tessa—that was the head secretary’s name—gritted her teeth.
"After working together for ten years, I can’t believe you’re such a traitor. You actually switched over to Owen!"
Stone waved his hand dismissively, impatient.
"Logan’s been suspended. As his secretary, of course you’re getting fired. Get lost already—you’re an eyesore."
"In a few days, Young Master Owen will take over as Reid Group’s top power. Sticking around won’t do you any good. I’m telling you this for your own sake."
The words barely left his mouth before a guard grabbed Tessa by the shoulders and started dragging her out.
Selina’s gaze turned icy cold.
No wonder Logan hadn’t contacted her in the past two days—Reid Group was in trouble.
Logan, the man in charge, had actually been forced into suspension by the board. But Reid Group wasn’t like other companies—the board didn’t hold that kind of authority. Logan had absolute control there.
How did the board manage to suspend him?
Unless someone powerful was backing them.
Who was it? Amelia? The Reid Family?
Selina’s lips pressed into a thin line.
Tessa walked past her, and for a moment, she looked surprised.
"Excuse me, you are...?"
Selina snapped back to attention.
"Secretary Tessa."
As Logan’s secretary, Tessa naturally kept track of everything related to him. She knew Mr. Reid had attended Old Mr. Carter’s birthday banquet a few days ago, and the woman standing in front of her... Tessa searched her memory.
"You’re Miss Sophia?"
Selina froze for two seconds before realizing—Sophia was her new name.
"Yes."
Tessa nodded, her expression complicated.
"You look a lot like someone."
Selina’s heart skipped a beat. She instinctively looked at her.
This capable woman was fifteen, sixteen years older than her and had always treated her like a younger sister at the company. Now, hearing Tessa say that, Selina felt a faint sting in her chest.
"Who do I look like?"
Tessa’s lips moved. She was about to say you look like Mrs. Reid, but at the last moment, she lost her nerve and simply waved her hand.
"No one. Forget it. Carter Miss, are you here to see Mr. Reid? Unfortunately, he’s not in today."
With that, Tessa didn’t wait for Selina to respond and turned away.
But she resisted saying Selina’s name...
