At that moment, it felt like everything around them faded into the background—Logan became the center of the world.
As he walked through the room, everything else seemed to blur under a soft filter. In Selina’s eyes, the only thing that existed was him.
She hadn’t seen him for days. Her lips tensed, and her fists clenched reflexively.
Would he... recognize her?
The entire room fell silent.
There had been a conflict between Mrs. Reid and the Carter Family’s young lady, and before the Carters themselves could respond, Mr. Reid had arrived.
"Logan, you’re just in time! That woman was bullying me!"
The imposter ran up to him like a wounded kitten, trying to cling to his arm with a pouty face and thinly veiled glee. "It was her! Logan, help me teach her a lesson, won’t you?"
It was then that Logan looked up.
He followed the imposter’s gaze and saw someone standing across the room.
All the other noise in the hall seemed to vanish in that instant. Logan had imagined what it would be like to see Selina again—but never like this.
She was right there, standing just a few feet away, with Carter Family bodyguards behind her.
At his side, a fake was pretending to be her, and people around them were all demanding he defend the imposter.
She had a different face now, a different name.
Even though she was right in front of him, no one recognized her.
And worst of all, he couldn’t expose the imposter—not yet.
Logan’s gaze flickered, just slightly.
The imposter pouted. "Logan, why aren’t you saying anything? She ruined my dress! Ask anyone!"
People nearby exchanged glances and quickly chimed in, "Yes, Mr. Reid, that Carter girl bumped into Mrs. Reid just now."
The imposter bit her lip, acting aggrieved. "I asked her to apologize, but she questioned me—said this dress wasn’t from you! But you did buy it for me, didn’t you?"
The onlookers all turned slightly reproachful eyes toward Selina.
How dare a so-called outsider question what Mr. Reid gave his wife?
Logan looked up again, his eyes locking onto hers.
His stare was unreadable, almost calm—as if she were just another stranger in the room.
Selina’s heart seized.
It felt like a block of ice dropped into her chest, sending frozen splinters through her veins.
He didn’t recognize her?
A painful twist gripped her from the inside.
For a second, she finally understood why Jacob had sounded so confident.
With a completely different face and identity—even if Logan knew there was an imposter—how could he dare claim this new "Sophia" was really Selina?
How could anyone?
Selina’s eyes stung. For a brief moment, she wanted to turn and walk away.
"Selina, what’s going on?" a voice called out just then.
Joe, having heard the commotion, rushed over. He immediately fussed over the imposter, concern etched into his face.
"Sweetheart, Daddy heard you were being bullied—who did this to you? Tell me, Daddy will take care of it!"
The imposter’s eyes welled with tears. She pointed at Selina and huffed dramatically, "Daddy, it was her! She spilled wine on my dress and refused to apologize. Even Logan took her side!"
Joe’s expression darkened. "Mr. Reid, you always say how much you love my daughter. Now she’s being mistreated and you stand there doing nothing?"
Someone nearby whispered, "Chairman Morris, that’s a Carter Family heiress. She’s here with their heir..."
Joe waved them off, playing the devoted father. "I don’t care who she is! Even if Jacob gives me hell for this later, I’ll deal with it—but right now, I’m standing up for my daughter!"
The imposter beamed, basking in the illusion of power. "Thank you, Daddy."
