He spat out the words with biting sarcasm. "Go back to the Carter Family?"
Daniel snapped, "That’s right!"
Logan raised a brow, the corners of his mouth curling into a faint smirk. "Also, Chairman Reid, what makes you think you have the right to send me back to the Carter family?"
Because you’re in our way! Daniel screamed in his head but kept a façade of righteousness. "The Carter Family raised you for years. You haven’t visited once—don’t you have a conscience?"
"Why did the Carter Family ’raise’ me in the first place?" Logan’s voice turned cold, laced with an overwhelming pressure. "Isn’t Chairman Reid perfectly clear on that?"
Why did the Carter Family take Logan in?
Because after he was born, the Reids abandoned him.
They never expected that bastard to survive—let alone grow up to be the powerful Mr. Reid, someone even his biological father had to tiptoe around.
"You—you—" Daniel was shaking with rage. "Where do you get the audacity to spout such nonsense? I’m your father! Everything you have was given to you by the Reid Family! It’s only right that we take it back! You need me to remind you of your place? You were thrown away at birth because you deserved it!"
"Oh?"
Logan let out a mocking laugh. "Then by all means, enlighten me—what exactly is my place?"
"You’re..."
"I’m the illegitimate child of your mistress, Amelia? My birth caused the death of your legal wife, Anna? And to appease the Perry Family, you dumped me like garbage?"
Logan sipped his tea, utterly unfazed, as if Daniel were no more than a speck of dust.
"If that’s what you came to say, save it. I’ve heard it all before."
Daniel opened his mouth, then closed it again, his expression twitching with embarrassment.
Logan tilted his head lazily. "Don’t mistake my silence for ignorance. Or better yet, ask yourself—why do you think I haven’t exposed the truth?"
A cold sweat broke out on Daniel’s back.
Logan knew the truth? What truth? That couldn’t be...
Everyone in the Reid Family had always believed Logan was the illegitimate one. He was tossed aside, as he deserved. But if that narrative unraveled—if Logan wasn’t who they thought he was—then the Reid Family would be finished.
No. That was impossible. They’d covered their tracks too well. Logan couldn’t have found any proof.
Daniel collected himself. "Whatever you’re planning, I don’t care. The Carter Family wants you back, and you’re going. As for the company—don’t worry. Owen will take over. Properly and officially."
Logan gave a low, amused scoff. "So all of this was just to clear the path for a useless nobody."
"Logan!" Daniel slammed his palm on the table. "You’ve got enough already! What’s wrong with giving Owen a little?"
"And if I say no?"
"You ungrateful brat!" Enraged beyond reason, Daniel grabbed a heavy incense burner and hurled it at Logan—
It landed with a sharp crack against his shoulder.
"You think I can’t make you leave? You should know clearly that the Carter Family is not sincere to you, and we in the Reid Family don’t like you either. You are born a bastard! You’d better know your place!"
With that, Daniel stormed out.
Silence fell over the room.
Logan looked up slowly. "Jack."
When the call ended, everyone watched Selina stagger in place.
Then she bolted for the underground parking garage like a woman possessed—like if she didn’t run fast enough, she’d never see her husband alive again.
Jack’s words had played loud and clear over the office speakers. Everyone turned to look at Owen in disgust.
"Now it makes sense why Owen was so bold spreading lies—he’s backed by the Reid Family."
"Is the Reid Family out of their minds? Trying to kill their own blood son over a foster one?"
"Mr. Reid refused to give up his shares and the chairman beat him?! That’s sick."
"Let’s be real—Reid Family is only powerful now because of Mr. Logan. And they think this joke of a foster son can take over? What a joke."
The gossip spread like wildfire across City A.
Half an hour later, Selina burst into the Reid estate and slammed open Logan’s bedroom door, diving toward his bedside.
"Honey! I’m late! What did the doctor say? Can you be saved?! Waaahhh—how did you end up hurt like this?! It’s my fault, I should’ve come with you! I didn’t know Chairman Reid was this insane, boohoohoo..."
Logan winced as she hit him square in the chest.
Selina sobbed even louder. "Logan, if you die, I won’t live either! Let the world see how Chairman Reid drove his own son and daughter-in-law to their deaths! Waaahhhhhh..."
Logan coughed softly, narrowing his gaze at her. He stared into her eyes—just to confirm what he suspected.
Not a single tear.
He lowered his lashes.
"Mrs. Reid," he said, voice flat, "are you really that heartbroken?"
